The tale of the hippie spitting on returning vets in airports rendering it necessary to change in to civilian clothing is an urban myth that began in the ‘80s.
Not sure where you read this narrative, I have taken care of Vets for quite sometime and have never witnessed one Vet disrespecting another based on what war they served in.

I’m talking about in the moment, between ‘67 and the late ‘70’s. Those attitudes toward vietnam vets changed as the broader population began to sympathize more with their horrifying experiences and widespread PTSD.
