Biden harkens back to an era when politics was a gentleman's club for Democrats and Republicans to pal around while having intellectual disagreements on policy. It was easy for Biden to call Vice President Mike Pence "a decent guy," and he often refers to his Republican friends. But people have grown impatient with calls to reach across the aisle simply for the sake of bipartisanship; those who use their power to systematically deny women and minorities their basic rights are not "decent" people. While Biden defaults to assuming decency in politicians like Pence, we need politicians to prove they believe in their constituents' basic humanity.

I’m not agreeing with the author. I just liked the quote about the gentlemen’s club.

I figured you weren't but it is a question I wish the author would have answered. That's a claim I hear all the time and whenever you ask them to identify what these basic rights are that are being denied you don't get much of an answer.

Well I suspect for those on the far left, unless we get to a place of nearly equal outcomes across population groups they will continue to scream discrimination and racism.

I'm not sure that Biden claiming the GOP wants to return to Jim Crow is a gentleman thing

    Some could call it divisive

    Just kidding he's a Democrat

They certainly weren't capitalists and they weren't conservatives.

    Nazi ideologist Gregor Strasser proclaimed:

We are socialists. We are enemies, deadly enemies, of today’s capitalist economic system with its exploitation of the economically weak, its unfair wage system, its immoral way of judging the worth of human beings in terms of their wealth and their money, instead of their responsibility and their performance, and we are determined to destroy this system whatever happens!

If you had Lincoln saying that he supported slavery and wanted to expand it the North it would be kind of ridiculous to say the Republicans opposed slavery.

Yes Strasser was later murdered by the Nazis, just as Trotsky was murdered by Stalin. That didn't mean that Trotsky wasn't a Communist and Strasser's murder doesn't mean he wasn't a Nazi.

Politics is an unseemly bidness and Dems and Republicans have been talking shit to each other since the 1850s. Even Nebraska classy Poppy Bush had Willie Horton. But I think Donnie has taken the shit talking to an unprecedented level for the modern era. I’m sure many a GOP senator would still have lunch or a cocktail with Creepy Uncle Joe. Doubtful this is the case with Donnie. We still need the Reagan / Tip O’ Neil dynamic to get REAL big deals done. Obama sucked at it. So does Trump this far.

    And so does Biden

I reject the entire false narrative

Gore had Willie Horton which kind of proves my point.

GOP says something its divisive and a threat to the nation

Democrat says it everyone does it and TRUMP

Trump doesn't take the bullshit. Nor do I.

Make stupid accusations you get called on it.

Pelosi and Schumer suck at working with Trump.

    Takes two. A kindergarten lesson

Willie Horton was a convicted murder who was allowed weekend furloughs from the Massachusetts state prison system. On one of these weekend furloughs he raped a woman an stabbed her boyfriend. Dukakis was the Governor of Massachusetts who's primary selling point as a candidate was his self-professed claim of being an uber smart and effective Governor. Letting convicted murders out of prison with weekend passes was a stupid policy. And Dukakis was rightly criticized for it, and Race is right, Gore was the first candidate to do so.

Just like the left is now trying to do to Trump with "Charlottesville" they tried to do to Bush with Willie Horton. It's another one of those left-wing lies that gets repeated over and over again until we all start to believe the Willie Horton Ad was "racist" and that Palin really did say she could see Alaska from her house. Politics ain't bean bag and there was nothing fucking wrong with that Ad and Dukakis should have been held accountable for that ridiculous furlough program.

I love this thread. The futility and desperation of the replies illustrates completely that the federal government is an abject joke and failure. If only pelosi and Schumer would play nice with trump then WE could accomplish stuff1!?!1 Good luck trumptards.

Reducing DC to common defense and common currency is the only rational solution. There’s not a single branch of the federal government that has any credibility or deserves any respect.

I agree with your assessment of the Federal Governments abilities but aren't you a BIG supporter of the California state government?

California has created the greatest wealth producing society and culture the world has ever seen. Despite government, including the state government. The heavy hand and cost of an oppressive and ignorant federal government is far more burdensome.

This is true but your emotional outburst about this thread was still stupid.

2020 is about ideas. Nobody will hit all your marks but you'll vote for who comes closest

Biden is every bit the piece of shit Trump is. Pretending he isn't is the false narrative I reject

Who wants less government and who wants more

And who wants to put the Blacks back in chains

    Fuck him.

I'm not sure Trump would gaf, he was great frens with the Clintons and plenty of other Democrats before he ran for office. Those people sure as fuck aren't sitting down to lunch with him anymore though.

Not saying Trump is chinnocent here, don't twist. I'm just saying his divisive rhetoric has ended that chance for him, even though I don't think he actually believes most of the divisive shit he spews.

California is blessed with great weather, geography and natural resources. The state government is far more oppressive and burdensome to businesses here than is the Federal government. Texas, which lacks California's weather and geographical advantages actually has far out performed California in the last 10 years. While the coastal areas have done well in California the eastern parts of the state has not. One of the things that would help California is if they opened up drilling for oil and gas but the state government doesn't allow it.
