I don’t think anyone truly believes that 81% of Hispanics are going to vote for Conservatives in ‘22, ‘24 or ever. I’d believe that 19% approval rating for Hispanic over 50. But 30 and under Hispanic will still vote for anyone with a D next to their name. And there are way more of them than the former. So. No one should take any solace in this poll.
Hispanics are doing incredibly well here in Oregon, mostly with the building boom that started here with Trump but has continued with Biden. And for Latinas, they are starting to dominate the medical fields in the lower to mid levels. Hispanics have no reason to look for new leadership here in Oregon.
I’m trying to remember the publication, but there was a recent article on the boom in Hispanic-owned small businesses over the last 5-6 years.
As a bloc, SBOs aren’t going to vote D with the way that party is trending. Mexican American men don’t vote D. The women is a bit of a different story, but I can tell you that, as a whole, they absolutely hate what’s currently going on at the border. These are people that worked hard to immigrate here over the past 3-4 generations and they are proud of both their Mexican and American heritage. Being unfairly lumped in with the recent border-jumpers is something that bothers them, and being condescended to by Lilly white politicians on both sides who DGAF about their culture outside of a ballot box is infuriating to many.
My guess is the GOP sees a 10-15% bump in Hispanic voting for the midterms and maybe a bit more in the 2024 general. Enough maybe to make a difference in local races in California and keep Texas and AZ from turning purple in future generals, but who knows.
I’m all for more legal Mexican immigrants. Absolutely a net positive for our society.
