According to the league's official website, Brown felt he was too injured to play so he refused to go in the game when Arians asked him to. Going into Week 17, Brown had been dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of practice on both Thursday and Friday. The same ankle injury had also caused him to miss multiple games this year.

The real reason he left is because he threw a shit-fit about not getting enough targets early on to help him hit $1 million in incentives. He only needed something like 5 more catches for 80 yards to get that money and had two more games to do it. Sources told Skip or Shannon, can't remember who, that he whined to Brady during the game because Brady was going to Gronk early and often to exploit a mismatch they had there. This, of course, is a week after the game where Brady targeted Brown 15 times to help him catch up on getting his incentive money.
