I think 99% of us would be thrilled with Campbell. He won at two garbage programs and is as close to a sure thing outside of Urban or Stoops levels that you can get.
1. Stoops 2a. Aranda 2b. Campbell
I do not think we have a realistic shot at Fickell.
That’s a realistic list though?
Who knows. Maybe. If Jen whiffs with all of the national names then get DeBoer in and make sure he understands how overwhelmingly important recruiting is. He won at a 96% clip with 3 titles at lower levels, isn't dumb and likely understands this.
That’s why you look at the entire resume. Anything can happen in a small sample. Their three conference losses were all on the road and by a TOTAL of 12 points. They’ve also blown some teams out.
Overall they are 4-6 against the spread.
Their loss this weekend was on a 62 yard FG at the gun to a kicker whose previous career long started with a 4
Yep, crazy.
And in their two point loss @Baylor they out gained Baylor by 197 yards (1.2 per play.)
They had a two point conversion chance at the end of the game to tie but the killer was their kick coverage. They gave up a KO return TD and a 41 yard punt return leading to a FG earlier in the second half while trying to come back.

I think Iowa gained under 150 yards in their win over Iowa St
It’s been a real strange year for them
The challenge at a place like Iowa St is that you don’t get the elite depth so you can have challenges with injuries, etc … which may be a factor in some of these close losses
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they win at Oklahoma this weekend

Yep, that game was a big part of why Iowa was so overrated because people convinced themselves that the Iowa defense had some magic ability to force turnovers while their shitty offense was somehow great at protecting the ball when really they were just running hot.
Anyway, that benefited me betting against them in the Penn State/Purdue/Wisconsin stretch (wish Clifford hadn’t gone down though.)
If Fickell turns down USC, Aranda is their guy. Franklin probably calls Jen and says he'll take a discount if the rumors of him wanting out badly at PSU are true. I'm not sure how I feel about Franklin.
Let's not pretend Campbell wouldn't be a high profile big dick hire here. We can poke holes in his resume but I would doog like hell if we hired him. Every vacant program has tried to poach this guy.
edit: Ok that OP video was pretty damn weird and gives me PTSD from 2000s UW AD press conferences.
Franklin is Pete. Adult in charge 9 or 10 wins most years. Hasn't got over the hump at Penn State and might not here. His best team was the Fiesta Bowl champs over Worshington
Campbell is a above average but not porn star size dick hire. The whole does more with less thing does not always mean will do more with more. Often it doesn't
Could be a reason he is happy at Iowa State where 6-4 is every goal he had for the squad
I generally agree but you could argue he broke through at Penn St because he did win the conference outright and beat Urban at his height. He also recruits really well and with the P12 so awful that's like 2/3 of the battle at UW to lift the program back into the top 2.
I don't love the idea but am playing devil's advocate. I wouldn't hate it either but he's not near the top. He's worlds better than Wilcox of course.
Yes

If you've ever hired Jon Donovan as your OC you can't be our Head Coach.

So he is Jim Walden and should take over at Wazzou
-Was youngest head coach in FBS when took over Toledo. Still only 41. -Dominated peers in the MAC and scored multiple OOC upsets. -First conference title game appearance in Iowa State history. They’ve never won Big 8/12. -First major bowl win in ISU history. Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce never won there. -Only took two years to turn around the program (remember Stoops year 2?) -Consistently in top third of conference since year 2 despite lack of resources or any history or tradition. -Coach of the year in his conference four out of nine years (awards are stupid but still)
The close games vs FCS opponents, the regression this year. His offenses aren’t great. I like him. I think he’s an 8-4, 9-3 type coach. I think DeBoer has a higher ceiling, but that is based on nothing but a gut feeling.

The more I read about Campbell, the more I like him. People say Cal is a tough place for Wilcox to win. By comparison, Campbell has the best record at Iowa State of any coach since World War I. After Stoops, he's my realistic #2 - as we probably aren't getting Fickel or Aranda.

DeBoer is my guy. I understand how the three seeming favorites here, Stoops in particular, rate higher to most. I also have a feeling about DeBoer, have a lot of faith in coaches who dominate at whatever level they coach at, and am exceedingly impressed with what he does with offenses. UW is way overdue for a prolific offense. All the cool kids these days air it out. Plus I want to be the program that snatches up a new guy before he blows up,

Clifford showed what happened when a competent QB goes against them and turnovers arent a factor
Likewise I’ve been fading them hard the last few weeks … I faded them against Minnesota and likely will as well when they play Nebraska

Wilcox no
I'm sorry, I don't make the rules.
Stoops is homerun.
Aranda and Deboner are solid triples driving in a couple runs.
Campbell is a single with nobody on.
Wilcocks is falling down and getting tagged out while the left fielder laughs at you on the way to first after a bunt.
@Tequilla nope it was in fact my best effort
Lake?

There are strengths for each of the top 3 or 4 choices
Which is why Wilcox is going to hurt when he's hired
Ive said it before and Ill say it again. Wilcox would do well at WSU
