UW has more pull than many people think. Two of the three external hires in recent decades were high profile coaches that could have gotten supposedly bigger jobs. The other was Sark.HoustonHusky said:

If I were a hot name in the coaching market I would be heavily weighing a program’s ability to exceed fan base expectations in near future.
I would not take the Florida job right now for example. Yes, you can win a natty there but OTOH Kirby Smart has the Georgia program absolutely rolling. If you aren’t at least .500 against Georgia you will have a very thin margin for error with their fanbase.
LSU might be even worse. Every year you have to play Bama for the division and now you also may have been surpassed by Jimbo at A&M and you are fighting neck and neck to stay ahead of Auburn and Ole Miss.
The Pac 12 comparatively is wide open. The only program that is at all a threat to domination by an elite coach is Oregon. -
Isn’t there always a secret candidate nobody’s really talking about? Aren’t they expecting to announce the new hire right after the apple cup?
