Oregon fans are pretty happy with Cristobal right now. They really have no reason not to be.
5 years removed from the worst season in 25 years, there’s a new Rose Bowl trophy behind the glass, multiple conference championships, recruiting has never been better, and he’s 6-1 against his regional rivals while currently sitting on a top 5 ranking.
Is he perfect? No….but we could do a lot worse, so we’re willing to put up with some of the small stuff. -

Oregon’s roster will be massively upgraded next season and levels up again 2023. Mario is king right now. UW is going to bleed more talent and will have some bad holes on the roster.AtomicDawg said:
Maybe. Those jobs are competitive though. I don’t think he is at the top of any of those schools lists though. Iowa state is good but not great.lawsandl said:
Campbell can go where he wants. Right now LSU, USC and Florida is inevitable. All three won it all in the 21st century.AtomicDawg said:
This. Whether you liked Rick or not, he was highly thought of and they went and pursued him at Colorado when he wasn’t necessarily thinking about the uw job. Paid him a bunch and sold him on the program. Colorado was basically same level as prestige as uw back then.CH0Pwarlord said:
This is the real issue. UW should not be limited on who they can go after and pay. Current leadership sees this program as a top 25 challenger, not a site for a top ten elite program. The coaches list will be similar to guys WSU goes after because that will be both who displays interest under current circumstances and who the UW will pay fairly. If a better coach lands here it will be because they see an opportunity to run the Pac12, and that vision will not come from the AD.AtomicDawg said:

Regardless hiring is a crap shoot. It’s about rewarding the guy who has success so he never wants to leave. Also, it’s about firing the guy after year 3 if he sucks. Sooner if they are jimmy lake.
IMO Pete got the program to a spot where it would be appealing to someone like the coach of Iowa fucking state. They ruined that a bit with the hiring of lake. So now $$$$ can show commitment and attract a ton of candidates. I don’t have faith that they’ll do it but that’s where we are.
A coach that competent would probably dominate the pac12 right now with usc recruiting though. -
Good news for UW is in the age of the portal, teams can fill major roster holes in a single off-season with the right coach (see; Mel tucker at msu). But lake isn’t that guy pal, he’s not that guyDerekJohnson said:

UW needs to stop the bleeding before it’s a massive rebuild. -

I just don’t see your administration being the one to do it.
USC won’t and Oregon is taken. ASU is a sleeping giant but not sure it’s better than Ole Miss.

I think Mel is using MSU like a dirty whore to punch up. Those portal kids evaporate and the roster is severely mismanaged for the coach taking over. I think we are going to see some severely mismanaged rosters in the portal era.ntxduck said:

I’m like 81% sure he’s talking about Gary Patterson (die if that’s the case) or Bob Stoops. It’s a guy not coaching right now.RoadDawg55 said:

It just can't be Patterson. He would be a terrible cultural fit for UW, and he's not exactly coaching at his best right now.backthepack said:

Patterson?! Just kill the program if so.

The hire will not be Patterson. But the big name that HowlingDoog thinks would be awesome and who somebody close to the program is taking about could easily be Patterson.Neighbor2972 said:

Patterson is done … he’s got nothing left
Anybody that would hire him at this point will regret it
