The decision to punt was 100% to say “we kept it kinda close at least”.
Pure cowardice
It was also ego... "I'd rather lose 24-16 than 31-16"
Absolutely. Lake wanted to go into his weekly sit down or phone call with Cohen and reiterate how close they are to winning bigly. Don't pay attention to the game flow, or the stats, or the empty seats, they were close.
1. It rained. 2. Oregon clearly gives a shit about this rivalry and it is a rivalry even though I don't understand why they would think that. 3. The crowd that was there wanted this game badly. The lunatic fringe are the people buying tickets and not selling them to Ducks, Jen, you dipshit. 4. I counted two Go Huskies chants, my dad(s) thought there might have been a third that didn't take off. 5. After the fucking decision to punt on 4th and 10 I looked at an organization that cares about winning and another that doesn't and I felt bad for the players that committed to UW with the goal of playing for PAC-12 championships and beyond and instead they are a part of a rudderless outfit that has no leadership and is wasting their talents. Fuck this AD.
Yeah was surprised to hear so few chants... even by us.
I sat behind two ducks (fuck my seat neighbors who sold them those tickets) and they weren't ready to relax until the punt-safety fiasco. Nice guys from outside the US who had never been to a football game before.
I don't know the time stamp, pretty certain there was more time, but I remember Pete opted to punt late in the Rose Bowl and I was beyond furious, but it somehow worked out with us getting it back, scoring and attempting an onside.
Have a feeling Jimmy was channeling that memory, but as someone pointed out, we would have had 20 seconds maybe.
Would have to look back at the time when Pete made that decision.

My friend and I that were watching that game at a bar and were cracking up and were riffing about that decision to punt was gonna win UW the game. The funniest part was watching the Ohio State fans in the bar take us seriously.
My buddy (not a UW fan) : “Watch Ohio State will fumble this punt and this will be hailed right up there with the Statue of Liberty play for greatest moments in Petersen’s coaching career.”
Me: “Great call Petersen, great call baby! Bring out the punt team. Let’s boom this one! Muffed punt coming right up.”
Me to the Buckeyes fans by us: “Get ready fellas. This is it. The most crucial play of the game.
One Buckeyes fan tried explaining why it was the wrong call.
My buddy: “Listen man, this is Chris Petersen we are talking about. He’s not checked out like Urban Meyer.” We didn’t know Pete definitely was at the time.
Me : “We playing checkers not chess out here.”
After it was over, the Ohio State fans kept seriously trying to question and reason with us about the punt. We kept it going and joking about UW being in the running for the #1 HS punter in the country. My buddy : “Yeah, I’ve heard about him. Isn’t he a 5 star? Me : “No, I think he’s only a 4.” I asked an Ohio State fan if he could look it up for me. He tells me he can’t find that punter.
Me : “ if we get this punter, I think we could be a preseason top 5-10 team.”
My buddy : “there is no doubt. Special teams are very important.”
The Ohio State fans took about 5 minutes talking about how the game was basically over at halftime and naming off some stats and big plays.
Me : “Guys I respect your opinions, but I’ve watched UW all season and this punter was a problem. Definitely the Achilles heel of the team. How many UW games you watch this year? Maybe 1 or 2? That’s what I thought. It was the right call to put the ball in the punter’s hands, but the execution just wasn’t there.”
Ohio State fans keep taking it seriously and we are kind of still playing along. “That’s your guys’ opinion. You got the Scarlett and grey colored glasses on. I actually have watched a lot of games this year. Seen a lot of muffed and fumbled punts.”
Eventually my buddy was shaking his head at these idiots and laughing so hard that he ended up telling them to stop because we were fucking with them the whole time.

I saw fans including me, leaving the stadium in droves at the end of the 3rd qtr and we were down by one one score. We decided if we saw Morris walk out on that field again we were gone, earliest I have left a game in my lifetime.
One of my two dad's is a stay to the bitter.fucking.end. guy. Always has been. He walked out after the punt.
Found the sequence. Had more time and we were still down 2 scores. Not quite apples to apples
4 min and 2 min are pretty different situations and Ohio State was reeling somewhat in the second half vs this past Saturday when it was obvious that whether they needed 5 yards or 50 Oregon was going get theirs on the ground.

We punted with 2 minutes and 2 timeouts. Would have had a little over a minute if we stopped them, which we wouldn't have. Clown move bro. And then Cade and Jalen dropping chunk yardage plays right before that. Never forget. I think that sequence needs a proper, capitalized nickname. Never forget.

Cade would’ve caught the ball 5 yards past the line of scrimmage and McMillan was at the line of scrimmage. Those aren’t really chunk play opportunities.

Something has gone terribly wrong with Otton. He looks slow, off balance and awkward a lot.

Just trying to find where Smartest guy in the room Jimmy got the idea.
Is it Long Covid, perhaps?
Also he has looked really slow for a <250 lb guy.
