On the remodel added a bake center for the Mrs. - was at Lumber Liquidators in West Portland, the manager knew my house, he was from Pe Ell, He sold me a corner damaged 10ft x 2ft maple butcher block slab for $99. Could not pass it up. -

Wood counters are fine unless your kid likes to drop hot pans onto the surface. We went with quartz and a large butcher block cutting board. Easy to maintain and looks great. Of course, Tom Cruise would have a personal chef and no concerns about blackening his wood counter tops.
