    Green or black ones?
Always about the blacks with you.
I hate black countertops and black dress shoes. Gross.
I sometimes wish I'd gone with a more mixed-race countertop, tbh.
    How progressive of you.

Make the island a different color or use two colors for upper and lower - white and a blue or gray. That's the trend today

When I started watching this shit everyone needed granite to replace laminate counters. Now they need manufactured stone to replace granite. Things change all the time

Remodeled after a plumber caused a fire in 2009 - the kitchen cabinets were saved and are custom white with antique ceramic knobs, and we added black countertops. Needed an island and bought a dark wood 2' x 6' Chinese imported something - not sure what its called. Grey paint, red small appliances.

black, white, grey, brown, red highlights.

Did I do OK kitchen gurus?

Replaced my Island top with 2" maple top I laid up myself. (I always loved woodshop BITD). Wood is extremely sanitary, easy to clean and you can put anything from mineral oil to a hard clear coat on it. I went with the latter so there'd be no berry stains or anything. As the primary countertop surface used in the kitchen, I wouldn't use anything else.

Now here's where @dflea comes in and says I'm bragging about myself, again.

    I like your choice.
    A timeless choice of countertops.
When in doubt of what to choose, choose wood.

I used to get screaming deals on butcher block material from a buddy who owned an unfinished furniture store, but no more. Otherwise all my kitchen countertops would be wood.

Any concrete fans on these boreds?

My friends who have them love them. Or else they're lying.

They sure eat wine glasses at a high rate, I've noticed.

Box wine and plastic cups - granite does not hurt them.

On the remodel added a bake center for the Mrs. - was at Lumber Liquidators in West Portland, the manager knew my house, he was from Pe Ell, He sold me a corner damaged 10ft x 2ft maple butcher block slab for $99. Could not pass it up.

That's a fucking score. My buddy offered me a steal on an 8 or 10 footer with a 45 cut - the one with the pocket holes drilled on the wrong side - and I said "maybe later."

He got divorced and sold the business about 4 months later. Fuck.

I used to go to the gun range a lot more frequently before I had my kids, When I first bought my Ruger I purchased a couple thousand round of .40 ammo. I haven't looked at ammo prices in over 10 years because I haven't needed any. Sparked by some of the comments I'd seen here about the difficulty in getting ammo and the soaring cost I checked out a few ammo websites last week. Holy fuck!!! Prices have sky rocketed and most of the websites I looked at had shortages for ammo.

A mans required equipment should include:

A hunting rifle, fighting rifle (horrible assault weapon), handgun, Riot style shotgun, hunting shotgun, suitable hunting knives, A minimum of:

200 rounds of hunting rifle ammo plus practice ammo

200 rounds of defensive handgun ammo plus practice ammo and 6 spare magazines

1,000 rounds of fighting rifle ammo and 6 spare magazines

200 rounds buck shot and slugs for the riot gun and 300+ of hunting shotgun shells suitable for game in your area

Wood counters are fine unless your kid likes to drop hot pans onto the surface. We went with quartz and a large butcher block cutting board. Easy to maintain and looks great. Of course, Tom Cruise would have a personal chef and no concerns about blackening his wood counter tops.
