This time of year they have those Christmas trees with the wishes of a kid or family in envelopes or stars or whatever on it. I started doing it a few years ago, and the very first of the kids wish just killed me. I don’t even remember exactly what it was, some small toy item, some bedding and maybe some tennis shoes. Jesus, that was some sad shit. I got that kid more than what was probably appropriate and now pick a handful of kids and families. Some are clearly not the kids “my mommy works extra hard to take care of my sister and me so I hope Santa brings her a large white Coach purse and a Michael Kors clutch. The real one not the fake outlet mall shit” type, but most will melt your heart at least as much as a good LB recruit. Or, if you don’t like children as I tend not to, local hospices have a surprising number of young adults they are caring for, and their families did not expect these significant expenses.
It’s your bitcoin or cyber-shekels or whatever they’re called and it’s what makes you feel happy at the end of the day. It’s not an either/or situation anyway. The community giving liaison will kiss other asses, and they’ll be fine. I grew up around those who liked to feel like they’re a part of the success because they contributed, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I still get some cool info they acquired with their privilege of access, so I can see the appeal. -
