Fuck off for thinking it was a miracle that we held Penn State to 35. That was Lake’s first game calling the D btw. We played like shit that day. You were doing somewhat well recently. Penn State was really good (lost two games by a total of 4 points) and we came out and played like shit in the first half.backthepack said:
We lost those games because we couldn’t physically matchup. We started Myles Bryant at outside corner, Bowman (he is pretty good now actually)/Tevis, 0 DL depth outside of Greg and Vita, Austin Joyner at Nickel, JoJo at safety etc. against Miles Sanders, Deasean Hamilton, Saquan Barkely, and Mike Geisicki and we only gave up 35 points in the Fiesta Bowl because Pete K is a wizard. Now imagine this defense against that offense...PostGameOrangeSlices said:

Your anti-recruiting stance is pretty retarded. It’s the reason we lost the CFP game, Fiesta, and Rose Bowl games before they even started.PostGameOrangeSlices said:
You guys keep hating his LB coaching and besides 2019 he produces good at worst units and remains on the staffNeighbor2972 said:PGOS starts these Bob Gregory threads every 3 months and it's the same lame argument every time.
The fact he annoys the shit out of the recruiting obsessed irritating posters is the cherry on top for me.
Big Bob fan
We lost those games because of our head coach. Pete.
Jesus H Christ
Browning was bad. I would say little 3 star try hard Trace McSorely outplaying the highly touted Jake Browning was a key to Pedo State winning the game. Pettis was hurt and the team had no WR’s.
What’s your fucking point anyways? That it would have been cool to have some better players in that game? No shit FudgePack. We’ve lost other games to PAC 12 teams with a lot less talent than us. Recruiting isn’t always the answer to why we lose a game.

Pete and then Jimmy for not shucking him years ago.chuck said:Gregory would be an easy one to upgrade. He gets decent grades for coaching and development but failing grade at building a complete LB corps.
2019 was just the disastrous culmination of what he built. In his fifth season as UW'S LB coach he had middling RS freshmen, Kyler Manu, a promising but injured true freshman, and a walk on who he was reluctant to play ahead of completely inept upperclassmen that represented his career at UW from 2014-2019. It doesn't represent a single down year, but a five year failure to establish a talented and competent unit.
Six years in UW has one...one...one good LB. People pine for Heimuli and Calvert...again a couple of freshmen...because there's nobody else on the depth chart showing much promise. There are no good upperclassmen and the second and third year guys, aside from the walkon he stumbled into, all suck or need more time. It takes more than one good LB on the team and more than two good players recruited and developed over six years or the position coach is due some criticism. If the situation isn't on Gregory, who is it on? -

It would be one thing to hand-wave away 2019 if it were the result of some fluky amount of injuries and transfers but no- you nailed it chuck. It was the result of a five year failure in recruiting and roster management that everyone (other than PGOS) saw coming.
We've actually been very lucky with the lack of attrition at LB- things could have been a lot worse. Azeem's injury and drop off hurt but Bierria never missed a game. Tevis moved around position wise but missed just two games in four years. The only game BBK missed in four years was the 2015 bowl game. The drop-off if BBK had been injured in 2017 or 2018 would have been massive. Our backups in 2018 were Manu and a walk on (not Eddy.)
Beavers was lost to a medical retirement. He may have made a small difference in 2019- I did like him- but he was never a world beater.
We lost just one LB to the portal that I can recall...Milo Eifler....who is now a backup at Illinois as a fifth year senior.
Yes, things are looking up for the foreseeable future with two young starters and a number of young talented players on the roster...but if the process doesn't change we will likely end up in the same position again in the future. The 2020 and 2021 recruiting results indicate the process likely hasn't changed. -

I wish the other position groups got this same kind of criticism. They dont. Lb has been better than oline, wr, qb. 2019's debacle was mostly on the offense. -
Many good points, but how many good edge rushers did Kwat develop? Half a season of Tryon. It’s not his fault that Tryon isn’t playing and he’s a great coach, but he has one legit guy and Bowman until the year.chuck said:Gregory would be an easy one to upgrade. OL has five guys that play at a time instead of two, but we haven’t had many there either. Since Pete and staff came in, McGary and Harris are their only drafted players that were recruited by that staff. We have obviously changed OL coaches and Huff has his guys rolling now.
We have had one WR recruited and developed to the NFL (Pettis) in the 6 years. Same thing, changed coaches.
Development at ILB hasn’t been much worse than multiple other positions. He developed BBK. Beavers was pretty good until he got hurt. Tevis was decent too, but obviously we want better.
I think Gregory deserves some criticism but his unit has been weak for only one season. No matter how many ways it gets framed differently, that still stands.
I can wait and see how this season goes. He needs to develop the young guys. I think he will. -

The difference is that we actually tried firing our QB, WR, and OL coaches and Kwat is a wizard so he gets a pass.
I want every position to meet the standard that our secondary and interior DL set. -
Yup. Necessary changes. If one down year results in getting fired than fire everyone who was involved in 8-5 in 2019. Including Jimmy whose defense couldnt get off the fucking field when it mattered most.dnc said:
