Seattle becoming Detroit

Seattle sucks. I voted with my feet and left. It's not going to become Detroit though.

Maybe, but it sure already is looking like New York of the 70's and 80's going bankrupt. Just give Sawant tim to get her guysm in there.YellowSnow said:Seattle sucks. I voted with my feet and left. It's not going to become Detroit though.

Too many lefty's will continue to move here for Seattle to ever become Detroit. It's just past the point of no return in becoming a liberal elitist playground where you can either afford million dollar-plus mortgages or live in subsidized housing. There will be zero middle class in the city in another 15-20 years.

Seattle could lose half the population and be better off than now because of location. Detroit had industry and not much else

It does suck in many ways. I consider leaving. I do sense some backlash in sentiment, but if we all do a Dori Monson and do our bitching from Shoreline (or Bothell, or Kent, etc.) instead of staying, who do you think will be voting in Seattle?YellowSnow said:Seattle sucks. At this point what difference does it make?HHusky said:

I don’t view it as my duty to stay. But this has been a nice place to live for most of my life. I don’t think it’s doomed, but I do wonder where the tipping point is.RaceBannon said:

The people moving to Seattle are either going there for a tech job or because they actually like the politics of the city. If it ever changes course it will take at least a generation at this point, probably two.HHusky said:

Getting her re-called would be a big win for the good people of Seattle.UW_Doog_Bot said:

I can see some version of 70s and 80s NYC urban decline but it's not like the great cities of the West aren't all looking at this. LA, PDX, SFO, and SEA are all looking more shithole-esque.
Even in the 70s and 80s NYC was still the capital of the world. Hell some New Yorkers have been excited to get some of that grit back. Fucked up if you ask me, but still. -
Seattle and Portland both have sustainable modern industries and are both aesthetically beautiful places to live for either to ever turn into Detroit or Cleveland. Those cities are just ugly and there is no reason to live in either when things collapse.BleachedAnusDawg said:Too many lefty's will continue to move here for Seattle to ever become Detroit.
