Biden doesn’t move the needle much for me, which is unfortunate. Elections shouldn’t be who you dislike the least, but that was 2016 and for many moderates it’s also 2020. Regarding your suggested strategy of embarrassing Trump and keeping Biden out of the public eye except to tout a policy or two, it seems to be working poll-wise, but those have proven to be misleading before.
Not sure how an impeachment will work without a GOP majority though. -

Trump has a base. Biden doesn't. Sanders would have been a much larger threat even as a socialist because he has a base too

Once trump is gone and no longer there to be hated we can all get back to hating democrats who will be elected with no mandate other than we aren't trump
