Cal has the superior row boat culture anyway

True. In my day Stanford was still a club team. When they went to varsity status they were good but could never touch Washington or Cal.

Brown cut a bunch of varsity sports just about a month ago, including T&F.

Change is coming. It's worth mentioning that sports are not a part, or at least not a big part, of universities throughout most of the rest of the world. It's a fairly unique thing here.

It all goes back to football. Its really the only sport 81 percent care about anyway

It is woven into the fabric.

And it is better for 90 percent of the players than a minor league would be

It may also go away in our lifetime
    Conservatively.

I would not be surprised to see 2021 row boat cancelled. Ivies already sold the Fall couch.

I took a recruiting trip to see Stanford rowboat, then flew up to see UW rowboat. Overall athletic facilities were impressive at the time (Kerri Strug was there) but of course their rowing was not. UW was way nicer.

This is pretty sad, Stanford tried to care about men's rowboat for a while.

This. Losing college ball for some NFL minor league would be a tragedy.
I can't see the NFL ever having an interesting in running a full-blown minor league system given the costs and scale involved. You're talking about a lot of teams with a lot of people on them. Basketball is much simpler to do - there are only a handful of elite players each year, small roster sizes, etc. Baseball's example is maybe more realistic for the NFL, but even then the physicality of NFL players is so much different than other sports that I have a hard time seeing 18 year olds competing with 25 year olds in some kind of minor league. It would destroy the development of the youngest talent.

This is all true which is why if college football goes the NFL will have a cheap ass school bus riding rock strewn field minor leagues and if you get hurt too bad get the fuck out. Which is why high school stars are better off getting an education that other kids go into major debt for and be able to train at the Hookers and Blow Center in Eugene instead of Memorial Stadium at the Seattle Center

I was trying to help @PurpleBaze pick up a used UW rowing machine so he’s top of his sleeper cell class in fitness. But due to budget cuts, all new equipment orders are on hold, which means no used ergs for sale in 2020.

Send pics when you ditch the muumuu baze.

Almost thought this was a sad day for a peter puffer row fren but then I learned he rowed at Cal. Could have gone to the Olympics but 80 boycott lost his chance.

My neighbor growing up was in the same boat (heh). Would have gone to the 80 Olympics.

:/ For a second there I was like, “damn, I need to head down to Palo Alto more often!”
