Apple and Amazon are two of the US's largest employers and offer high paying jobs. Most of the goods each company sells are manufactured in China. "Apple is one of the biggest job creators in the United States, responsible for two million jobs in all 50 states. Last year, we spent over $50 billion with more than 9,000 U.S. suppliers and manufacturers. Since we launched the App Store in 2008, U.S. developers have earned over $16 billion in App Store sales worldwide. And we’re just getting started."PostGameOrangeSlices said:

Good post, except for this revisionist history. Our forefathers bought and sold them at auctions in the Caribbean or on the West Coast shores of Africa from slave traders who bought them from kings, princes, and rival tribes in Africa. That's right, but for the extremely rare capture of slaves from small villages, they were sold by rival tribes and their own kings, which may or may not be morally worse than white men capturing them like animals. I don't know what to do but I need to do more. We all should.
Same with the Uighur cultural/actual genocide in China. No one gives a fuck, especially not the American left who is so fond of offshoring labor to a morally bankrupt authoritarian hellhole
Why wouldn't businesses pursue maximizing profit. Goods produced in China cost less, American consumers benefit. Its also raised Chinese living standards.. Tariffs and protectionism doesn't help Americans. It hurts. The Chinese don't pay tariffs, American consumers do. The idea of producing all goods with American labor is flawed. Take the price of TV's, appliances, iPhones, whatever and tack on 40%, 50%, or more but we can create more middle class jobs which comes with less spending power. We end up worse off. Trade deficits benefit Americans. Today someone can create a small business, manufacture goods in China and pay Amazon 30% for end to end fulfillment and marketing on the defacto sales platform.
What about if those manufacturing jobs stuck around and blue collar workers had millions of those jobs at middle class wages? They then spend disposable income at restuarants, bars, entertainment venues, real estate, other assets, etc.
But sure, no one could afford anything before China took on American manufacturing...give me a fucking break
Maybe we can go back to using only American steel mills. Funny how Trump built his real estate empire using Chinese manufactured steel. Better yet, let's bail out GM again when the unions strong arm them into paying line workers $80,000 wages plus benefits. They need a working wage to pay for those American goods. BMW and Honda build cars in right to work states and pay $18-$22 an hour. Without a raise I expect, they can't afford American made goods. I expect you'll suggest we eliminate unions, which is a nice thought. Good luck getting that one through the House and Senate.

I'm calling them out but I don't have a vote. So there's that. Without invading Saudi Arabia that won't change. If we did, shit goes right back to normal when we pull out. On the other end of the spectrum, unbridled greed-is-good capitalism essentially destroyed the concept of a 'good corporate citizen' - meaning the overriding purpose of the company was not necessarily share price but a balance of fair treatment of workers, contributing to community causes and a moderate return to shareholders. Instead, it's become all about quarterly earnings and the obscene gazillions the CEO's as a multiple to their median income of the worker bees. It's only been in the last year or so where the C-level guys have to disclose pay ratio information.
Instead of BLM, I'd argue that shifting that mentality would be of greater value to the country - but I'm sure the Bezos' and Gates' and Tim Cook's of the world are quite content with the status quo and using their gazillions to feed the racist narrative.

Are we going to knock them down and take their gazillions like AOC and the Bern say we should? Let's do it and say Bye Bye to those high paying jobs.

But that ain't the way it went down in 99% of the cases.Baseman said:Simple fact.
I've got lots of black friends. My black and Samoan teammates all had my back. more than the white guys. No one gives a shit. I am white and I am privileged.
Tacoma's finest killed another black man today. It's bullshit and it's my obligation to go further than saying All Lives Matter. I'm not talking slave reparations but I'm acknowledging blacks have been fucked over for too long. Hitler and the Nazis are a big and fascinating part of history but you don't see statutes of Hitler, Goering, and Himmler in Berlin. No one who lobbied for keeping Confederate statues should be considered very fine people.
I'd happily sign up to kill Jew exterminating Nazis. Dark Americans deserve better than the shit this country has dealt them from the day our forefathers chained the Africans up and shanghaied them to America. Our grandfathers enlisted in mass when the Japanese bombed our boys at Peal Harbor, why aren't we doing the same for our black brothers?
When you have a complete supply chain reliance on a communist turned dictatorship rival super power that fucking hates you and their long term plan is revenge for the "100 years of embarrassment", youre going to have a bad time.
I work in that world, man. There's some egregious shit that goes down that most shareholders would shit their pants over. E-fucking-gregious.Baseman said:

Hopefully the Throbber doesn't end up sleeping with Luka Brasi with that disclosure.
