The goal of the shut down has been been met.
If the goal posts have been moved to waiting for a vaccine for a virus that has a .2 - .6% death rate (overwhelming elderly who have health issues), we will do this until a great depression kills millions worldwide. This is not a reasonable option and will destroy lives, communities, and our country long term.
We are never going to wait out the virus. That is not a possibility. We can only manage the rate it spreads, and do everything we can to protect the most vulnerable. But we all know an economic collapse will kill far more than this virus.
We need to get back to living and be very diligent with nursing homes and other vulnerable people.
But this zero tolerance policy that has us in an indefinite economic shut down because "if it saves one life..." will lead to civil unrest when the economy completely collapses. -

Carlson pointed out that the eight red states that did not issue shelter in place orders had fewer deaths and cases than the national average on per capita basis.
Sweden, most famously, has never locked down.
Restaurants there have never closed. That country is still suffering from coronavirus, suffering more in fact than we are in the U.S. But the country’s epidemic appears to have peaked. And without locking down, Sweden has, and this is the key, has fared far better than other European countries that did lock down. That includes Britain, Italy, Spain and Belgium.” -

Bump. This is why the briefings are uselessRaceBannon said:Here is what Trump said on March 4:
“Well, I think the 3.4 percent is really a false number. Now, and this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this. Because a lot people will have this and it’s very mild. They’ll get better very rapidly. They don’t even see a doctor. They don’t even call a doctor.”
He went on to say:
“I think that that number (the WHO number) is very high. I think the number, personally, I would say the number is way under 1 percent.”
Democrats and media pundits blasted Trump for spreading “misinformation.”

It won't get to less than 1 until we achieve herd immunity. That wasn't the point of the shut down. It was to smooth out the death rate. We have done that. Better to have people exposed this spring and summer than kill the economy and have no functioning hospitals this fall and winter. You are free to shelter in place all you want. Apparently, you have the same position on that as you do on taxes. You think you should pay more taxes but won't until you are forced to. You won't sit in the dark in your basement unless you are forced to. The spirit of America is on display with the dazzler. Now I need to send a royalty check to the Throbber.HHusky said:

That's what those of us who read books and love science call a control group showing that we fucked the economy in vain89ute said:Nothing's changed with me
