Section14A was not so FS for a change. If you can't see that the NCAA is toothless I can't help you. If you think Oregon didn't get away with a lot I have waterfront property in Arizona for you.
This is the new reality. The NCAA is scared to death that the big football schools will LEAVE.
Woody can say we let Sark go, found out that Tosh was of low character and we're sorry but it won't happen again. UW is going to be fine
The difference is that Oregon was never accused of handing a recruit a few grand in a paper bag. I don't care if it was for tutoring or to give to the recruit's favorite charity - it was a direct cash payment to a recruit - which is easy to prove. I'm pissed because Tosh is such a dumbass, and this could really fuck the program over.
The whole Willie Lyles thing was about cash to a recruit, just using a middle man. I'm not going to argue that Oregon isn't better at cheating than this appears to be, but Chip was always way better than Sark.
What about Miami?
Chip didn't get that show cause because he was innocent. We already got rid of Sark.

UW won't get any meaningful penalties. Tosh is fucked. Sark has a good shot at being fucked.
Race - that's the thing. Oregon's lawyers basically made it impossible for the NCAA to prove that any money ever changed hands between Oregon -> Lyles -> recruits. The calculus here is much simpler. If Tosh flips and says that Sark or UW AD gave him the cash, UW could be proper fucked. It's a good thing that all of these guys are no longer on the payroll, but that hasn't necessarily stopped the NCAA in the past.

We need to hire Oregon's lawyers.
This. The NCAA had issues showing the paper trail to a LaRelative of James. Lyles was never willing to cooperate when push came to shove with NCAA.
This Davis guy seems pretty intent on taking down Tosh and or the Football program. He was probably promised more than what is getting reported. LIPO but this seems easier to prove than what happened at Oregon if nothing else because the participant is willing to provide the paper trail for said services.
I highly doubt the UW AD gave Tosh the money and the green light to do this. Tosh was probably feeling pressure and did something desperate. he makes 500K a year he could probably afford it. Still puzzling though, I mean Andrew fucking Basham? Really?

Atleast Tosh didn't send a thank you note
But in all seriousness, Emmert's two inches of thunder may get erected to 4-5 inches, because of the nature of the violation.
Oregon paid money to gain access to recruits to a third party, however, the NCAA couldn't prove direct benefits going to these recruits. In Washington's case, you have a coach allegedly giving direct benefits to a recruit and his family. This jeapardizes the kid's eligibility.
One thing I have noticed is that when a student's eligibility gets threatened, that's when the NCAA has a beef. Tosh could have had an affair with four 12yr olds, and the NCAA would probably give less sanctions. It's bullshit, but unfortunately it's the NCAA, so it makes total sense.
Just a note: Basham was not a recruit at the time of the alleged payments, this is not a recruiting violation, it is an improper benefits violation; which also really helps UW. Tosh and Sark are the ones that are completely fucked in this situation, UW will likely get some small time penalty, maybe a year probation or something.

I kind of hope that nothing happens. Tosh can get the hammer, but I want Sark staying exactly where he's at. The NCAA helps my school more by going with the good old "less is more". If Woody can get it right, you know USC won't screw up again.

Are you for real?
First of all the Oregon scandal never involved a player being fed cash. Second of all the rules have changed since all of that went down. Institutions and Head coaches are much more accountable to what their assistants do, whether they can be proved to be in the know or not.

With that said,
People just need to relax and let it play out.
Cougs gotta coog
