    Anyone remember H1N1 ( Swine Flu )

"As of mid-March 2010, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that about 59 million Americans contracted the H1N1 virus, 265,000 were hospitalized as a result, and 12,000 died."

Staggering numbers comparatively. We aren't even anywhere in this ballpark and signs don't point to us getting there: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_in_the_United_States

Some signs actually do point to us getting there:

The attending physician of the U.S. Congress & Supreme Court, Dr. Brian Monahan, briefed Senate Staff yesterday in a closed-door meeting that he expects anywhere from 70 up to 150 million people in the U.S. to contract coronavirus

This virus has a case mortality rate significantly higher than the swine flu did so if it did reach those sort of numbers the fatalities would be exponentially higher than we saw from H1N1.

Is the rash of closures around the world and here an appropriate response? Medical professionals seem to believe so...
You're rooting for it. That much is clear

The question is....what cost is too high? I know that sounds cold but there are true business implications and you're going to harm a lot of people...

I have to think all the precautions currently happening is to keep this virus from even approaching the H1N1 numbers. Could be wrong.

Careful with the word "exponentially" in this case. I got a 4.0 in number theory at UW so you can trust me on that.

Facebook and twitter weren't that big of a thing in 2010. Way easier to fan hysteria these days.

I like heroes without underlying health issues.

And for Gawd’s sake, haven’t the 60+ crowd lived long enough?

That is many orders of magnitude larger than any guesstimations I've run across.
Dr. Brian Monahan, pretty dialed in as it turns out.
