It's okay, they got "free" healthcare and a high literacy rate in the tradeoff

You guys are really missing the point of what Bernie was saying. In no way was he trying to absolve Castro of his atrocities, but a regime like that really is complex and the economic system they were trying to implement was very effective in some aspects as it was abl.....
....no I can't keep going. I don't know what the fuck Bernie was thinking about praising any aspect of the Castro regime. Public relations 101 says you don't offer even the faintest of praise to murderous dictatorial regimes. Christ almighty. -
Bernie just gave Trump Florida. Even if Bernie can win back Pennsylvania and Michigan (Hard to do considering he wants to eliminate fracking and coal) he would still have to flip Arizona, or he loses. To alienate a large portion of the voting base in most likely the most important state in determining the next president of the United States has to be one of the dumbest strategies I've witnessed.GreenRiverGatorz said:You guys are really missing the point of what Bernie was saying. what Bernie fails to tell you is that Cuba was a leader in Latin American healthcare and literacy BEFORE Castro. I've had old people who grew up in other parts of Latin America tell me that school text books almost always were written and published in Cuba. People went there for procedures.
Sure, there were significant percentages of the island's population that were not formally educated, and many who couldn't read or write. But we're talking about a long time ago. There were a lot of people in the rural and poor US, and Europe for that matter, who weren't exactly quoting passages from Shakespeare with facile grace. When Castro came to power, going to college was still something generally for upper class U.S. society. That was here. The world was a different place.
Castro may have spread some literacy to the campecinos that wasn't there before. BFD. At what cost? FTG. -
