1st president ever. Would have thought W would have hit one. As I recall he was quite religious.
Who would have thought that the 3 times married, philanderer and former Democrat would be the first President to show up in person. Reagan didn't do it, neither did either Bush.

Trump be walkin' into the Senate chambers all like and Ivanka/Melania trailing behind making it rain hundies.

There are many atheists who oppose abortion. It's not only a religious issue.
You are correct, this is not just a religious issue. They have a lobbying group that speaks for them in Congress. I attended a glad handing event in the Rotunda that was put on by this group and the people who attended the March for Life event were surprisingly very, very diverse. Many democrats too. It is an interesting group. People just think it is a bunch of religious zealots and that perspective is totally wrong.
Past Presidents have spoken via phone. Many Congressional members have spoken in person in the past. Just my opinion but it is pretty wimpy for past Presidents to be too afraid of photo ops to attend in person but did so over a telephone.

Of course, none of us can ever really know anyone's mind. And I'm not acquainted with either Trump or the Bushes, although I'm professionally acquainted with someone who is, or at least at one tim was, close to W.
With all that said, all I've ever read or heard about W is that he took to religion quite naturally, reflecting the fundamental difference between growing up in Texas and growing up in Connecticut. It's often discussed in the context of political elect-ability in Texas, where HW failed and W excelled. After W married the librarian and got his shit together, he joined his wife's Methodist church and never looked back, leaving behind the political liabilities of Phillips-Exeter, Yale and his father's New England sensibility of keeping their Protestant faith - about which they were quite serious - relatively private. Others say he embraced the Texas Christian Evangelical community solely for political purposes. Either way, it worked.
Trump ... what can I say? There is enough in his family background to suggest that some degree of deference to the religious order is plausible. Still, somehow I don't buy as genuine any real or sincere connection between Donnie and the true believers. I would guess it's much more likely to be a lot of good, and smart, posturing. Either way, he once again does the smart thing and shows the importance of figuring out what team you're on and playing for them ... and only for them.
He's as good as re-elected and will win running away.

Agree. Its been largely secular in the past
Franklin Graham is attending for the first time
Have to say I have had a different experience. I don't know many, or really any, atheists or agnostics who are militantly opposed to it. On the other hand, I don't know many people who are completely indifferent either ... a healthy number find it to be an undesirable way to deal with unwanted pregnancy, but those people never line up and don't seem to vote on this issue.
Almost every person I've known who has a big problem with it are informed by a religious view of some kind.

Abortion is one of those things like drugs and guns. If you make it illegal, people will still get it done. And now you are making young women criminals that otherwise wouldn't be.
“ Making Young women criminals”. What a bunch of horseshit.
If abortions are illegal. And a women gets one, they are now a criminal. Are you that ignorant? Or do you think only drugs and guns are subject to people having them even when illegal?
There are restrictions on abortions already. That every candidate supports.
Bullshit. Not every candidate supports restrictions on abortion. Roe had restrictions that were struck down by later Court cases. Roe was wrongfully decided. If it is struck down abortion will not end. It will be for each state to decide as it should have been in the first place.

Abortion is not a hill to die on. Keep it to the first trimester and be done.
Edit: To be clear it's a non issue to me, a lot of wasted energy and I do feel politically the people that love this love Trump anyway.
