Coaching replacement thread

I just don't want to see us make the same mistake with Hamdan that we did with Smith. They have both been hamstrung with this being Pete's offense. Bush has not shown much ability to adjust in game but let's rememberHoustonHusky said:
Agree on matching the system to your current and likely future qbs, but a big WTF on keeping Bush for another year. He literally called a game where he called run plays into run blitzes for 3 1/2 quarters. That is a special kind of stupid we don’t need for another year.whuggy said:On reflection I'm not liking my suggestion of looking into the staffs of LSU and Oklahoma for a possible Bush replacement. Your offense has to fit the skills of your QB. All the good college offenses have QB's with some degree of mobility. Hurts, Herbert, Tua, Burrow while not run first can escape the pocket and get a few positive yards. Eason and our next likely, Sirmon, are both essentially statues so building an offense similar to those other programs is unlikely to work. I can't really think of any good college offenses that have statue QB's. Ironically Oregon State is probably the first to come to mind. I'm one of the few who wants to give Bush another year. If so I'd have him take a look at what OSU is doing. I'll tell you they don't do any of that stupid WR screen shit. The only other idea I have is look at what has been a pretty successful offense over the years in the NFL with a statue QB in Brady. That's a pretty wide divergence admittedly in the Beavers and the Patriots but they both move the ball with immobile QB's. Of course this is all based on the assumption that Pete loosens the death grip on the offense.
he is operating with an OL that is not living up to expectation and a group of receivers that Millen has essentially called awful. Everyone on here agrees that Pete has to let go. If you are not going to give Hamdan a chance to run an offense, then give me your list of who you would hire. And won't those hires be just as useless if Pete still controls them? I'm all for looking at a new OC if Hamdan fails, but is it Hamdan failing or Pete failing Hamdan?
Edit: And by the way I think we also have big problems on the other side of the ball. -
He doesn’t seem to get that mad. He used to when he hated some Sark guys. Some of those guys were pretty good too. Now he likes everyone because he recruited them and seems to go lighter on them.whlinder said:
Maybe what I am really trying to say is he doesn't have the passion for winning that he used to. Does he still get pissed off and livid at screwups on the sideline? I checked out a few weeks ago, so no idea.Houhusky said:Isn’t it kind of a paradox to say that Pete doesn’t have the passion for coaching but also cares enough to maintain his death-grip on the offense?
Personal development and turning boys into men through his methods seems to take priority in 2019. -
They are both hamstrung, but smurf did a lot more with this offense then Hamden is doing. Another year won’t fix it...you either have it or you don’t and Hamden doesn’t. Even if it’s something you can learn he’s not going to learn it under Pete.whuggy said:

And I give more props now than I did at the time to Brownsocks...he may not have an arm which caused problems with good defenses (Cal), but at least he said FU to the dumbest playcalls of Bush’s and audibled out. Eason doesn’t seem to have the confidence or foresight or whatever it is to audible out of the plays and tell Bush to pound sand. -
This is the 3rd season I've posted this name for OC... Jeff Horton.
Not flashy, but he's experienced enough to tell Pete his BS sucks.

I’m hearing offensive genius Willie Taggart is available.

But, actual possible offensive genius Kendal Briles might be available. @dirtysouwfdawg got his home address to send him a cake? -

Except he doesn't deserve it.

Not sure why Lake doesn't deserve to be the head coach at this point. Defense isn't the problem. Pete is.PurpleThrobber said:Jimmy Lake will beat Cuog again Friday and talk shit. He'll become the board's darling once again.
