About three blocks from my house is Whatcom Falls, city park and tourist spot (neat waterfalls, I guess). There's a pond in the park that's stocked with trout for kids to fish in, and I take the kids down five or six times per summer. If you go upstream from the pond a little, the fishing's better. Not only that, but you basically find yourself in this nature wonderland right in town: You can catch a trout, toss it up in the air to the two big blue heron that hang out above you waiting to be fed. Meanwhile, there are three beaver who live right there on that stretch of the creek, and they're always busy doing beaver things, sometimes six feet in front of you.
