And do we want a Pac 12 team in the playoff? Our reputation is bad enough
Not necessarily when you think about it. I think it's just about right. If we beat Oregon at home it means we are likely good enough to run the table through the Pac 12 title game. We'd have 3 quality top 25 wins over USC, Oregon and Utah, plus a rematch with a ranked USC or ASU in the title game. 12-1 Washington with 1 flukey weather delay loss would be hard to keep out.

Depends who else loses. A 1 loss Clemson, osu, Oklahoma, or sec west rep would get in over any 1 loss pac12 team. So the pac12 would need one of those above 4 to lose twice.

We can all agree that 1 loss Clemson, tOSU, OU, are assured to get in. 1 loss Notre Dame most likely. But where it gets murky to a 1 loss non SEC champ vs 1 loss Pac Champ Oregon or Washington. We also know that, historically speaking, chaos is still likely an you it's long odds to see like 4 or 5 12-1 or 11-1 teams log jammed.
It's funny how the teams ranked at the top have lower odds of winning their conference than making the playoff. Which does make sense, only 1 SEC team can win the conference but 2 (or more!) could make the playoff.

Fixed! Very hurtful to @89ute to not include his Yoots! Plus, the chances of a rematch with ASU are pretty much zilch.

1) No Pac-12 is going undefeated the rest of the way including us but even if they did
2) A one loss Georgia/LSU/Bama/Penn State/Oklahoma/Notre Dame/Clemson/Penn State/Wisconsin/Auburn all get in over any Pac-12 team with a loss.
Granted several teams still have to play each other along the way, but the odds that 7 of the above will have the necessary 2 losses to be leap frogged by a one loss Pac-12 team are not good.
