Is anyone other than @MikeDamone advocating the elimination of government? I mean we paid for it so its not some mythical visitor from space who paid for all this

America did so America did build it

If you don't think about half of what the government spends today is bullshit you should vote for the Squad

Those were actual investments and the duty of the government to protect the citizens.

Its a stupid argument which is why Obama came up with it

A lot of people are rugged individuals who built a lot of great things. Not everyone dreams of being a socialist drone

    Go figure

I'm all for BIG gubmint spending that actually increases productivity, gives us cool shit, and makes ALL of us wealthier. But @MikeDamone gets hung up on his precious Constitution and lectures me like I'm some dumbfuck.

And now most of our spending goes to pay for grandma's hip replacement. I realize that's great for grandma, but what does that do for the General Welfare of the country?

It's funny because it's true. Half of our Federal budget goes to pay for retirement and healthcare.

It's the great issue of our Tim- i.e., diverting an ever increasing share of our national wealth to keep olds comfy in retirement. And yet we spend all this energy arguing about shit like abortion that doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.

Wait until the debt crisis hits, then will have people blaming the evil "rich" for not being willing to pay more of their "fair share."

This isn't sustainable and nobody wants to talk about it.

As an old I agree with this

The problem is that SS was sold as your money being invested wisely by the government for your retirement. It wasn't. The entire health care delivery and insurance system is now fucked up from birth to death and nothing on the horizon looks very promising

We need a re set because I don't see means testing for benefits being politically possible. Rich people are rich because every penny counts and by God they put that money into SS and they want it back even if they use it to light their cigar.

White against Black, Boomer against Millennial, right against left. Its all a long con. That's something we boomers knew 50 years ago

    And nothing changed

Hell were spending SS money to keep youngs high and on the couch doing Oxy watching Jerry Springer. Disability.

The deck is stacked against you. You need the government to help you. You can't build that. Join the DSA and get your piece of the pie!!

Stop SS now and stop taking money from the payroll workers and in 40 years maybe we have it fixed. Open up full throated competition in health care

Teach self reliance. The safety net isn't designed for half the country and millions more from other countries

Its fucking ludicrous as Mike Tyson might say

    And insane and suicide

You could take the income cap of Social Security with-holdings and bump the retirement age up a little up and kick the can down the road a little longer with Social Security. Medicare is the big dog and what will eventually bankrupt us.

What's going to happen is that our interest costs on the debt are going to continue to balloon and we're going to end up having to slash our military.

Look at England. All their money goes the National Health Service.

Hell our parents and the boomers won't pay for our debts. There is no way the millennials are going to pay for it. Leftards want to import millions of illegals and stick them on the dole.

We just got a new budget with new spending and the GOP didn't even really put up a fight.

And a lot of our spending is off budget

Most of Congressional leadership is in adult diapers. Must be some reason they hold on so long to that shitty 170 grand a year salary

Meh, we can still take money out at negative interest. It's going to take someone knocking the US economy out of #1 status before that changes and the up and coming challenger just got knocked out in the first rounds. Either that or someone populous on right or left fucking up treasuries being debt bullet proof which I see as more likely. That will be our own doing though. So we have that going for us.

I don't know, $trillion annual budget deficits when you're running the hottest economy we've had in 25 years makes me think this thing can't last for long. No one seems to care about the budget deficit and our debt anymore. What are our deficits going to look like when we have another recession?

We really aren't deep in debt as a percentage of GDP for a developed nation. I agree that I'd rather be spending money on things that the government is "efficient" at and will continue the Pax Americana rather than grandma's hip. We've got a while before that really becomes a gross problem though.

You grow your way out of debt rather than cut spending. That means investing in the right things more so than cutting the budget. R&D! R&D!

    Governing by EO sucks.
Ts&Ps on trump’s asylum policy yesterday, btw.

A loss for America is always a win for Team Hondo.

    Celebrate!!!!
We are a nation of laws. If you and trump want to change them, you need to convince voters and Congress. Otherwise, the laws on the books need to be enforced.
    Just like at the border?
Sure. No one is stopping trump from enforcement. California is not going to cooperate with him though.
    Those are contradictory terms.

    and El Oh El
California has no obligation (financial, facilities, or personnel) to enforce federal law. Sounds like you have a problem with the trump administration.
Again, you are a massive idiot. California sued to keep their federal funding while ignoring our laws. WTF ?
    Great meltdown as always.

Trump sued California to overturn our Sanctuary State laws. He and his white trash sycophants have lost every step of the way— twice at federal district level and once at the appeals court level. Sanctuary state laws prevail in the sovereign state of California.

Los Angeles sued the federal government when the trump administration penalized it in its public safety grant application for its sanctuary state law. The City stands to lose $2mm annually.

How much do you like your daily public humiliation?

    I ❤️ the tug’s trumptards.
You massive dumbass. If you have no obligation backing federal laws then you should have no problem not receiving federal funds. WTF is wrong with you?
Again, and read slowly this time, California has no obligation to enforce federal law. The sovereign state of California has broken no laws and is in full compliance with the constitution and federal statutes. How many times do you need to hear that before it sinks through your thick skull?

A federal trial court said the administration can rank grant recipients on local police policies and The City of Los Angeles could lose $2mm. Is this that hard for you and pawz to understand?

Nice play with words, CD. You are relatively correct, California is under no obligation to enforce federal law. Just as Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi weren't directly obliged to enforce federal law in the 50's. But the federal laws sure as fuck were in force.

How'd that work out for the 'sovereignists' in Little Rock or Oxford? Federal law will be enforced in California whether CHIPS officers Poncherello and Baker do the arresting really doesn't matter.

Federales >>> States. US Grant - Appomattox, VA, April '65
Agree. Everyone agrees. Enforce federal law to your heart’s content. California is not interfering or impeding that. Golden staters however will not lift a finger or provide a single state dollar of support.
California is only fucking rich because the federal government bankrolled all the critical junctures of your economis development. Quit being so god damned ungrateful. YOU DID NOT BUILD THAT!!
In fact the entire development of the (mostly arid) West was largely bankrolled by the Federal Government. Then the "rugged individualists" moved in--probably mere steps ahead of the law. Thus, the Tug is actually a result of government.
It's possible that w/o the cold war and the massive R&D spending that came with it and into SV, the Internets might not even exist yet. Ironic ain't it?
    Uh, thanks Stalin?

Hell I'd settle for just a cut in the rate of growth in spending. But when the majority of your spending is on healthcare and retirement costs for oldsters that doesn't seem like a very good investment. I don't see us turning around our spending priorities anytime soon, in fact all the momentum appears to be on the side of more money for not only grandma's hip replacement, but also abuela's hip replacement.
