We are taking a tweet about a court argument and taking as gospel that its Dachau around here. The numbers are overwhelming and the Congress is taking their sweet fucking time sending more money

    From the NY Times

WASHINGTON — The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a bill on Wednesday to send $4.6 billion in additional aid to the southwestern border, as federal agencies there warn that they will run out of money to house and cope with the flow of Central American immigrants.

The bipartisan agreement, which the committee advanced 30 to 1, allocates about $2.9 billion for the care of migrant children and $1.3 billion to improve facilities at the border. It does not allow the Department of Homeland Security to add beds at detention centers or migrant processing facilities.

The agreement also includes oversight provisions sought by Democrats, including prohibiting the Office of Refugee Resettlement from sharing information with immigration officials about people who take custody of unaccompanied children. The restriction was designed to prevent the authorities from using the process of locating a family member or guardian of a migrant child as a backdoor means of finding undocumented immigrants.

But the compromise was reached without input from House Democrats, who have been working on their own version, and it is unclear how the two measures align in addressing the administration’s urgent push for additional money at the border.

Concerns from House Democrats, particularly members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, about sending more money to agencies without stronger oversight, had led to the measure being pulled from an emergency relief package that passed the House last month. On Tuesday, House Democrats sent their Republican counterparts the text of their legislation, according to a congressional aide.

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, said he planned a vote on the stand-alone measure next week, before members leave for their Fourth of July recess; House lawmakers have similar plans for their own measure.

Having endured the nation’s longest government shutdown over funding President Trump’s border wall, lawmakers were careful to emphasize that the measure would primarily address humanitarian needs, including food, diapers and fundamental necessities for migrants in custody, and did not include money for the wall.

The measure also allocates overtime pay for agents and officials at the border, as well as money for 30 new immigration judge teams to address a backlog of cases.

“Our border security professionals and the children and families in their care cannot afford further delay,” said Senator Richard C. Shelby of Alabama, a Republican and the chairman of the committee, who asked his members to avoid adding amendments that would affect broader immigration policy. “I’m hopeful that a strong bipartisan vote will provide the momentum needed to assist our folks on the front lines.”

Administration officials have warned Congress that without additional funding at the border, detainment centers and shelters for migrant children would continue to operate beyond capacity. The Office of Refugee Resettlement said this month that it would begin restricting or canceling legal aid, education and playground recreation for migrant children housed in government shelters as a result of financial constraints.

Mark Morgan, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told reporters this month that Congress had “failed” in supporting the efforts at the border.

“I’m here as ICE begging for this,” Mr. Morgan said. “We need that to get the families out of the Border Patrol detention facilities and into better facilities.”

It's almost like we are giving incentives to not jump our border illegally.

Democrats put the word out in Central America that everybody will get in if they come.

Republicans are saying that isn't the case with actions.

Now maybe they will think twice before trying to hop our fences.
Sure the strategy makes sense. It is sending a stern warning to would-be illegal immigrants. I think that's a message worth sending.

Maybe I'm just too fucking soft, but can we at least give them basic sanitation? We can even compromise and give them the generic stuff instead of that name brand shit.

Christ, it's like some of you relish the opportunity to look like assholes to the rest of the world just so we can all laugh at the predictable overreactions from the left.
So pandering to the rest of the world for the last 75 years has benefited Americans, how?
What does this have to do with withholding basic sanitation?

I agree with the stronger border tactics. I agree with taking steps to disincentivize illegal immigration. Shit, as much as I disagree with Trump, I'm also for the wall. I also think you can achieve all of those ends and give them a toothbrush at the same time.

    I know, I'm a fucking visionary.
Fuck fine. Give them a toothbrush. Maybe next time they decide to intentionally separate their own kids before making the jump, they will make sure they have an ample supply of toothbrushes themselves.

Speaking of concentration camps & history books., I'm literally coming to the end of the book The Rise and the Fall of the Third Reich. I'm in the throes of reading about concentration camps.

Concentration camps are designed to kill. Period. Whether it's by efficient means (gas chamber) or working people to death via slave labor, there is only one intent. Extermination.

Maybe it's time to take a walk around Auchwitz or Dachau for some perspective.

Death camps are designed to kill. Concentration camps are designed to hold indefinitely without due process. No one is saying ICE is running “death” or “extermination” camps, although people seem to be dying in their custody frequently.
    Death rate is .00002.

    HC calls that "frequently."

Does anyone think they had good dental hygiene prior to coming to the border?

I am thinking that perhaps spending the last year saying the border crisis is not a crisis was as effective as calling them concentration camps

Looks like it was and is a crisis

California’s economy surpassed the UK in 2018 (measured in GDP) and is now the 5th largest economy in the world, with 25mm fewer people. Source is California DOF and is summarized on numerous news reports on May 4, 2018.

I’m sure London will be ok. But if California frightens you so badly, you may want to stay home.

I got a birthday email from my sister in London

Hope it was a good one and that you don’t feel any older. Sorry this is a day late – not sure what happened. It was on my mind to send you an email all day, but I guess my mind is a little unreliable. NOT anything to do with age – just too many things to do. I know you and Walter don’t believe that I work really hard, but it’s actually the truth.

It looks like we’re going to get our own Trump here now that we’re going to become American instead of European. Looking forward to receiving your chlorinated chicken and giving your private health companies our national health system in return. Happy days!

    Helps Trump IMO

I didn't tell her we were sending Typhus back

I drive pass City Hall occasionally on my way from the amazing bar scene on spring and main streets downtown for dinner on Olvera Street or China Town. Have you ever had shrimp dumplings at yang chow? Fucking delicious! Anyhow, no, I won’t stop to lobby for humanitarian defense. HTH.

    What does that solve

    Lightweight

How about give them some basic human cleanliness. Even the criminals in Alcatraz had a shower and bed.

How it should be: No detainment facilities. No immigration judges. Get caught crossing the border, get sent back to Mexico, and Mexico gets the bill.

You know what Hondo, you're right I misstated the facts. California has 1/3 of all the Welfare recipients in the country and the highest poverty rate in the country. But it was incorrect of me to say that 1/3 of the State's population lives in poverty. It's closer to 20%

And thus you see the difference between you and me Hondo. No months long jackass dance where I argue that "technically" I was correct.
