But, that said, it's an area on which I can compromise rather easily. I wouldn't die on the hill for it. I think we should always keep a skeptical eye on protectionist policy, because although it feels good in the short term, it's a long-term loser. The free market, with some modifiers on the edges, is the engine that built this thing. Not the pledge of allegiance. I'll defer to @UW_Doog_Bot on that last point and stand to be corrected.
