You’re forgetting he played under Pete.RealRhino said:
Not really. One year as quality control coach, one year as WR coach before being made OC/QB coach. Only QB coaching experience was under Sark, and you have to assume as the QB coach he got a lot more involved in playcalling/play design than as the WR coach under Petersen.dnc said:
Hamdan has spent massively more time working under Pete than under Sark.RealRhino said:
I just don't believe this. I know we can cite stuff about Pete's offense not being great other than one year, and since he's the common denominator he's reining in these otherwise gifted OCs, but I don't believe it. I think the HC can absolutely set the tone for the *kind* of offense he wants to run (see Carroll wanting to be a heavy run team with play-action chunk plays) but there's no way I think it gets to the level of detail where he's mandating the bad route concepts and route combinations that Bush uses. Or that he's forcing Huff to set the OL up to fail by forcing them to make reach blocks they can't make, etc.PurpleBaze said:Hamdan looks tormented and broken. He needs a drink. I wonder if he would do things differently if he was left to his own devices and Uncle Pete wasn't a big part of the offensive philosophy.
The smoking gun for me is that Bush is a first-time OC who essentially spent his time training under Sark, and this offense does the kind of stupid shit that Sark would do.
And a year plus as OC.
I love you but there’s no case that 12 months under Sark was a bigger influence on Bush than his like six years under Pete. -
Bush should know about benching seniors since he was benched as a senior.

What's even funnier is the 'talented' young guys are the guys BUSH recruited. You would think he would want to play themFremontTroll said:Bush should know about benching seniors since he was benched as a senior.

They are better athletes than the upper class men for sure but FWIW in the small sample size we have Bynum always looks hesitant in identifying the hole in the coverage.dnc said:

I think Adams would like to play the younger guys if I had to guess but I think this is more an indictment of how hard the offense is to grasp for under class men. I remember John Ross not being good in 2014 also -
Bush is pretty damn beta.

Yep Ross got moved to DB as a junior for a reason.AtomicDawg said:

Wasn’t that reason Peters’ suspension?dnc said:

And Kelly’s injury?
And everyone else were true freshmen? -
Hamdan deserves some shit for sure, every coach does, but how much shit would he be getting if the WR didn't drop 47 passes and Luciano didn't exist? I'm guessing not much because we likely would have won by double digits with 450+ yards and 30+ points. Those mistakes were that crucial every fucking time. Most godforsaken shit I've seen since the last time we played Cal. This was worse. Call me an apologist all you want but the players deserve most of the blame in my mind. Catch the ball, don't false start, and we'd all be rainbows and unicorns.
And before you say the coaches are responsible for the players, fuck you because you're probably right. PISS out my ASS.

we were thoroughly outcoached

If I never hear Luciano’s name again it’ll be too soon.

Yesterday I poasted quite a bit of stuff from Hugh destroying the offense and the coaching mistakes.
I didn't want to let the defense off the hook. They fucking sucked too. This is not from Hugh, this is from me.
- Cal averaged 5.1 yards per carry, only PSU and UCLA had done that to UW's defense over the last 2 years, every other team was UNDER 4 ypc
- Cal's first half drives:
5 plays, 30 yards, punt
3 plays, -11 yards, punt
3 plays, 4 yards, punt
5 plays, -2 yards, punt
7 plays, 69 yards, field goal
3 plays, -3 yards, punt
- Cal's second half drives:
8 plays, 75 yards, touchdown
11 plays, 73 yards, touchdown
3 plays, 6 yards, punt
9 plays, 74 yards, field goal
- What. Theeeee. Fuck. 3 long sustained drives of 70 plus yards that leads to points. Fucking Cal's offense. What happened at halftime that the coaches couldn't figure out. Or were the players just asleep at the half and never woke up? The missed tackles suggest that latter, the lack of adjustments or removing players fucking up their assignments suggests the former.
- Fuck you Petersen, fuck you Lake, fuck you missed tackles, fuck you blown coverages, fuck you lost contain, fuck you defensive penalties to extend drives. Fuck all of you. And fuck me for caring so much.
- Lastly, just to shit on the offense again for good measure, the 4 drives that UW had that were sustained and were 10 plays or more (and 2 went for 70 yards down the field), all 4 drives ended in field goals.
- Fuck you Petersen, Hamdan, dropped passes, and false starts. Fuck all of you. And fuck me for caring so much. -
Getting gashed in the ground was the most concerning part of the game. I don’t like the WR’s, but they won’t drop that many again.
The problems at LB and DL depth are troubling. Manu obviously sucks, Wellington hasn’t put it together. I don’t like what I’ve see of Sirmon either. Kind big, kinda slow, and kinda soft. I’m already ready for Ah You and Danny Hammer. -
As I said in the Definitive Post Mortem, it's easier to see offensive fixes than defensive ones based on Saturday night. Not good.RoadDawg55 said:Getting gashed in the ground was the most concerning part of the game. I don’t like the WR’s, but they won’t drop that many again.

That seems about right. Neither team was playing at a pace to make a 30 point margin anywhere near possible. Plus, we* kinda suck.FremontTroll said:

I don't know shit about sports gambling but if there any reason why Washington is -21? Or rather, who thee fuck would bet that?

Hawaii is bad.GrundleStiltzkin said:I don't know shit about sports gambling but if there any reason why Washington is -21? Or rather, who thee fuck would bet that?
Washington is good (not great).
Washington is at home.
Teams typically tend to play well after a big letdown. Big week of FOCUS, etc. -
I'm not a bettor but I will be unhappy if UW doesn't cover that spread.
