The "crisis" at the border

Let's just throw $25B in taxpayer money at a wall that may or may not work to stop a crisis that may or may not exist. The GOP, the party of fiscal responsibility!Doogles said:I can't believe this is an issue. Wall estimates cost around 25 billion. If it works or not is clearly debatable. Maybe it helps secure the country and save lives. Maybe it's a total waste.
I'm living in a state that is spending 75-100 billion on a train from SF to LA so it can go from a 5.5 hour drive to a 3 hour ride. Just took a 1 hour flight from Sac to LA for 59 bucks, not sure what they plan to charge. Train won't be operational until 2030 or some shit, who knows what transportation technology we have by then.
The wall is just a wall. It will have maintenance costs. Throw some solar panels on it as that tech becomes more efficient. It's just a wall. Best case scenario it benefits the country significantly. Worst case scenario nothing changes but some jobs were created.
Just put it up so the "trumptards" will get a win. If all these numbers show that it did nothing, then the left can shove it down the rights throat. If you are so confident it's not going to do a damn thing to secure the border then beg for it to be built just so you can be right.
I'm not a republican either.
The point is it's a drop in the bucket, we spend a lot more on a lot worse, it is as low-risk high rewards of a bet you can make. Country stops shouting at each other (at least on this issue), we brush our teeth, and move the fuck on. -
By your logic people should be rioting over the bullet train. What service does it provide? Will people in poverty even be able to afford the train, or will they be stuck on amtrak? Does amtrak implode? Will it be a tourist attraction that generates income?
What could 100 billion do to help solve homelessness in California? Isn't that more pressing than a train that may or may not be obsolete by the time it's completed, if it's completed at all? -
The Brown crony train will never be finished. It will be a monument to the one party rule in this state and the 3rd World level of corruption that exists here.

I think the bullet train is worthless and wouldn't spend the money on it. But I'm not in California so whatever.Doogles said:By your logic people should be rioting over the bullet train. That being said, I think part of the wall issue is delivery. I'd actually support it if they put out exactly what the funds would be used for. And how it will reduce drugs and illegal immigration. Whereas right now, it's "we need $5 billion cause it's a crisis!!" -
Put the wall on the ballot then. I admit I don't know much about the CA bullet train but I assume it was approved by voters at some point.Doogles said:By your logic people should be rioting over the bullet train. You're arguments are a pile of shit
Secure the border -
Since we don't have a national referendum system I'm trying to decide it this counts as Sincere being a liar or a dumbfuck.insinceredawg said:

You are a states rights guy. Why don't you support each state determining how they should protect the border?SFGbob said:

The voters approved 9 billion in 2008
Current cost is 77 billion
Miles of rail is zero
But walls don't work and we can't afford them
People still go hungry. Food stamps don't work -
400,000 just in just one year? That's a small number? Live in a southern border state. Live in Houston, SA, Brownsville, Hell Paso, Phx, Tucson, Yuma, SD, Inland Empire, LA, Fresneck, and all points in between. You'll get it...or you'll be a leftist who wants open borders, in which case you'll be an idiot
