While Miami hiring away cristobal would be pretty funny, not sure it is the best thing for the rest of the conference. Oregon could be good with a real coach if the talent sticks around.

Disagree. Cristobal can pull top shelf cruits. If He stays, Oregon eventually buys the coaches that develop them. If he leaves, they’re back at square one again for 2020 crootin and beyond.

That prove it contract that Oregon dolled out will probably come back to bite them now, given a fairly easy buyout.
disagree. You are still assuming that those said coaches could be identified by him and that they would want to work for a coach that is so/so.

He needs to win big in the next 2-3 years or the luster will wear off the recruiting pitch. You can only win 6-8 games so many years in a row before the cool factor goes away. He is Ron zook until he's not.
    So, elite recruiter and LIPO?

    Brilliant prognostication.

Fuck. You are the classic example of the doog conflating your hopes and dreams with fact.

Manny Diaz never played football at Miami. When was Paul Wulff one of the most respected DCs and recruiters in the country?

    Epic dooging today.

For what it's worth I'm hearing Cristobal had his agent contact Miami inquiring about the job. If offered, he would have taken it in a heart beat. It appears the Miami AD knew Richt was stepping away for some time in advance and already had his guy lined up and that's evident with how fast Diaz was hired. The reports that Crisobal was the top candidate were false. Oregon is still a stepping stone. Ducks better hope Diaz does well at Miami or else they'll be looking for a new head coach again in a couple years if Cristobal proves himself as a coach and manages to get Oregon from fourth to second in the North.

Makes sense when you think about it.

Step one: find out from Richt we'll ahead of time that he's retiring, but keep it quiet.

Step two: ID Diaz as your first choice.

Step three: let yourbforst choice out the door to sign as a HC with a buyout. What could go wrong?

Step four: Surprise! Announce Richt's retirement.

Step five: call your guy - the one you could have told to sit tight for what was coming - to make a U turn and be your head coach. It's $4 million more expensive now? No big deal.

    Seems plausible.
The dooging when it comes to the Quooks getting a good class is truly incredible

Diaz was hired by Temple 18 days ago. Between then and prior to Miami's bowl game it is likely Richt informed the Miami AD he was stepping away in which case the coaching search began and Diaz was the top target and Diaz verbally agreed to take the job. Then Richt waited until after the early signing period and bowl game to announce his retirement so that it wouldn't be a distraction and so their recruiting class wouldn't collapse. In the same day Richt announces his retirement, Diaz is "hired" without any public coaching search. In reality, he had already been hired but had to wait for it to be official after Miami's bowl game. Point is, Cristobal wanted the job but wasn't offered. If he's offered that job in the future he gone.

Richt decided on Saturday night, after the AD told him to fire his son, post-bowl. But sure, keep making up stories in your head
