The Boy Scouts were the Boy Scouts. There was no reason for them to change. If they died then they died. I don't think you can completely discount the effect of the bullshit. It is likely to be more conservative parents who like Scouting and what it stood for. They are also likely to not like to be told how to do it so some fag can diddle boys in the woods. Of course some kids would rather play video games, or as Race noted watch TV, and before that it was go to the movies and listen to the radio, the Scouts weren't for everyone but it was an organization that could teach young boys useful skills, and instill certain values and patriotism. The left fucking hated Scouts because of this. -
