Its not as terrible as it used to be. See the tablet in pic above for example. At the EWR United terminal they are ripping out the seats at the gates and replacing them with counters with the tablet you see pictured above mounted at each seat. While your flight is delayed you can sit in front of the tablet, order food and beer, while surfing the interweb.

That airport was amazing when I was there post Atlanta trip. New terminal is incredible.
