As they grew into Super Bowl contenders, the Seahawks—especially the Legion of Boom defense—prided themselves on a ruthless internal competitiveness that lifted everyone and was the foundation of an NFL championship. But some former and current Seattle players say a growing rift developed, based largely on the special treatment some felt was afforded quarterback Russell Wilson. Now the team they believed was set up for a long run of success has been torn up and rebuilt around Wilson. Did it have to go down like this?

I read the article today, it was a lot of fluff and bullshit. Even though it kept saying "a dozen sources" you could tell it was a couple angry guys. Sherman and probably Bennett. The article made no effort to show the other side or illustrate how Sherman and Bennett were cancerous to the team. And mind you, I like and respect Sherman. I think when he gets older he will look back at the last couple years and shake his head at how self-centered and angry he was.

Eh, that's probably true. A lot of teams have highly paid QB's, then the salary cap issues, trading away draft picks, integrating a new QB with the playbook, etc.HillsboroDuck said:

I doubt more than 5 teams would be interested in trading for Drew Bree's, Matt Ryan, etc. -
That's not what he's talking about though. He's not saying teams couldn't afford him, he's saying they wouldn't want him.RoadDawg55 said:

Irregardless, Pete Carroll coddled Bevell and Wilson and destroyed the team's championship window.

There's plenty of blame to be thrown around with respect to what happened with this team … I give credit to the guys that spoke on the record.
Whether people want to believe it or not, QBs do get treated a bit differently for a whole other set of reasons. If there was a rift in the team (and it was obvious that there was), then the Seahawks made the right call on putting the balance of the team on Wilson's shoulders.
There were some stupid things done like not giving Marshawn the ball in the Super Bowl that was FS and how much of it was ego vs outsmarting yourself vs whatever nobody will ever know.
The biggest mistake the Seahawks made through all of this was not nipping this in the bud earlier. They let last season ride out when it was painfully obvious that it was broken beyond repair. Instead of getting something for Sherman they got nothing for him. Instead of moving on from Earl this offseason when they didn't want to pay him was to move him versus have this bitterness linger and repeat the same mistakes from last year.
They'll be better off in the long run for pulling the plug on this run. Petey likely needs to retire. I don't think Schneider is an idiot but he's moving way too lock step with Petey at this point and it's setting the organization backwards.
