The Police lyrics thread got me thinking of a new idea for a shitty YellowSnow music snob thread /pole.
With that said, what is a band or artist that you think is outstanding and amongst the all time greats that most (i.e., < 81%) here think suck?
For me it's the Grateful Dead which are my all time favorite American rock group. But from what I can gather over the past 1.5 years of research we have no other Dead fans and most are either meh or hate them outright.
Negative. I was still in grade school in San Diego. Was still in HS for Delta Center in the 1990s and too slow strategy to inhale second hand bud smoke at a Dead show.
Ratt had the musical chops. I barely remember them from the radio ca. 1990 six months before Seattle music snobs declared hair bands toxic but I got into them in colllege.
Some of the songs were stupid lyrically but so were 70% of 80s songs and 99% of what passes for pop music now.
One of the best concerts I ever went to was Social Distortion in a shitty dilapidated warehouse in Dallas in 1988 or some shit. Cool story, I know.
Saw Social D at an End-Fest concert on the Kitsap Peninsula, along with Candlebox, They Might Be Giants, X and a couple other bands. X blew everyone else off the stage that day.
Similar experience in 1982 Grand Slam Summer Jam with Bryan Adams, Joan Jett, Loverboy, B.O.C. and headliner Foreigner. B.O.C. blew everyone else off the stage that day, while Loverboy reminded us all how lame Canadians are, in general.
Best Concert ever? Prince. Hands Fucking Down. Best Live Performer I ever saw.
Some mag, Rolling Stone I think, tagged him as the "Canadian Boss" after his 4th or 5th Album. (I had them all). He's lucky he survived and made anymore records after that and it's shameful that his doubly shitty song from Robin Hood was his biggest hit ever.
