Has any professional franchise ever had such a love affair with such a shitty past as the Mariners?
The Mets (until they didn't suck)?
The Mets won a championship in their 7th year and another in their 26th year of existence. They are only 15 years older than the Mariners but they outpace us? in World Series appearances five to zero. Their history may not be that of the Yankees but it isn't embarrassing. They aren't at all comparable to the Mariners.
Can the MLB just contract already? There is no reason for the Mariners to be in the MLB any longer. The Marlins, Rockies, Rays and Diamondbacks all joined the league after 1993. All four have made a world series, two have at least won it, and the Marlins have won twice. The Mariners since 1974 haven't sniffed a world series. The closest they've come is 1 win in the ALCS...twice. They now have the longest post season drought in professional sports, beating out the likes of the Browns, Senators, Kings, Royals, and Lions.
Only the Browns and Lions have worst resume's since the 1970's, and even with that, at least they've won a couple decades before. The Mariners have never won ANYTHING. Their claim to fame is 116-46, and they finished that season as strong as the Ducks finished their "12-0" season.
I used to be a huge Mariner fan. I loved the Edgar, Griffey, Buhner, Johnson days. I still remember my hatred for Bobby Ayala. But enough is enough. Like a dying cow in pasture, sometimes you just need to put the damn thing down. The humane thing to do is to end this franchise, and start a new one in San Antonio, Omaha, Charlotte, etc. There is no reason to torment a naive fan base any longer. The Mariners don't have an pressure to win, so they don't even try to win. Again, enough is enough, euthanize this shit.

Would you like to upgrade your season tickets for next year?
