So Dennis, I take it you won't be chairing the London Fletcher for HOF committee any time soon?
But yeah, I hate tackles as a stat. It's like judging a pilot on how many passengers he's flown without accounting for how many made it to their intended destination and how many were still alive when he dropped them off. -
I appreciate that people started keeping stats. Tackles seems like an obvious one to keep track of, so fine. It's better than NOTHING, I suppose.NorwegianHusky said:So Dennis, I take it you won't be chairing the London Fletcher for HOF committee any time soon?

However, what the brand new wave of sports analytics is showing us is that while things like 'tackles' were a decent rough draft of the data that we should be looking at, the things we need to be attending to are much more sophisticated.
Statistically Jake Browning last year was a million times better than Tui in his senior year. You would have to be a fucking retarded WSU-level cunt to think that Jake is even anywhere CLOSE to as good of a player as Marques was.
There are going to be ways to differentiate those types of contributions in the future and I'm not aware of any player-level stats that really help us these days...
But the IMPORTANT thing to remember is that stats like TACKLES don't mean fucking shit.
The same argument is made to say Mata'afa is a better player than Vita. lol -
For a defensive player, if the opposition is aggressively calling plays in your area that’s telling. It’s what teams did against PSALM last year. It’s what they did against Myles Bryant this year. BBK falls more into that category than not.
BBK isn’t terrible ... but to me on a good team he’s a 2nd team ILB.
When you watch a guy like BBK and then project out what Jackson Sirmon will be ... yeah, there’s a difference -
Exactly this. I don't HATE BBK. I just think he's better served as a situational depth guy against the lower tier of our conference...Tequilla said:For a defensive player, if the opposition is aggressively calling plays in your area that’s telling. To me, the perfect linebacking corps for our current D would be something like (from the past decade)
BUCK: Hau'oli Kikaha
WIL: Shaq Thompson
MIK: Donald Butler
SAM: Mason Foster
I think Jackson could eventually approach the style of play DB had... but BBK is no Shaq. -
3 all Americans. The one that wasn’t was probably the best physically and also AN nfl starter. Our defense would score enough points by themselves if we had those Guys starting at the same time.Dennis_DeYoung said:

I don’t think it’s unreasonable... these are all guys who we could get now (maybe with the exception of Shaq, but Kaho is similarly rated).AtomicDawg said:

I don’t see a real reason why Kaho, Sirmon and Tafisi aren’t just as good a combo as these dudes. -
If we could add Martin we could basically say if they all reach their fullest potential we just recruited that exact group.Dennis_DeYoung said:

Completely agree that we could recruit those types of athletes. To have them all pan out at the simultaneously though is the hard part.Dennis_DeYoung said:

The more you stack the better the odds like you say. It’s hard. Not impossible. USC did it with carrol. -
Comparing UW to Bama is dumb.AtomicDawg said:
Great fucking sample size. Bama secondary sucks because they could not stop Watson. See how dumb I sound.Baseman said:
Bryce Love ran inside the tackles for 170 yards.RoadDawg55 said:
We scored 7 points vs ASU. DB’s and Browning were the main reason for Stanford loss. LB isn’t a problem. Let your BBK obsession go.Baseman said:AtomicDawg said:
Linebackers have been good. Just one position was underwhelming. That's the buck. Feeney and Littleton could bring heat from the edge but feeney was playing out of position should have been a situational pass rusher. Azeem RIP and bierra have been good.ToddTurnerLIVES said:Other than the 1 year of kikaha this coaching staff has never had an elite BUCK that is versatile enough to play in space, stop the run and rush the passer. As amazing as our defense has been under Kwat I think the LBs have definitely been a weakness for us and our lack of an elite pass rusher has held this defense back. If Tryon is that elite guy off the edge then pairing him with Kaho is going to vault this D to another level. We've gotten elite play from our secondary and defensive line which should continue going forward, but the play of the LBs is about to move from solid to elite over the next 2-3 seasons and our defense is going to take the next step.

Ahh. No.
See ASU and Stanford.
BBK and Jonathon Smith are the reason this team is playing before New Years. -
Pettis created enough space. Nick Saban exposed a freshman lineman and Jake Browning and a 200 lb middle LB.AtomicDawg said:
He also ran over our entire fucking team. Our offense couldn't stay off the sideline.Baseman said:
Bo Scarborough ran over BBK and Bama played in the Championship Game.AtomicDawg said:

Please bring up how the linebackers were a liability vs asu this year. Can't wait to hear.
Pettis and Ross couldn't generate space consistently vs bama, therefore our wr's are not good.
