The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has warned that air quality in the Bay Area could reach troubling levels on Friday and Saturday.

Cal, which is scheduled to play Washington State Friday night at Memorial Stadium, has a team of officials checking the forecasted air quality for Berkeley. One Cal athletic department official told BearInsider.com they would “follow all NCAA rules and regulations when it comes to air quality for the game” and immediately alert fans if there are any changes to Friday’s game.

“Right now, we are working with our medical team and the Pac-12 to track the air quality every hour to make the best decision for our student-athletes and fans when it comes to hosting the game tomorrow night,” said Geena Serles, an executive at Cal’s ticket office. “As of now, we are planning on playing the game, but if anything changes we will notify everyone with a ticket as soon as possible, probably via email.”

Air Quality Index readings in Berkeley reached 187 on Wednesday. Based on the NCAA’s own regulations, if the air quality gets much worse in the Bay Area, there’s a real chance Cal and Stanford could be postponed.
