If you read the Seattle Times article and watch the interview video, he isn't really saying they don't use stats. He just says he thinks watching game film is more informative than many stats. In the same interview, he says they track the analytics of their own player's progress in the weight room. Analytics is just the modern trendy word for stats. Not that many people here will care about the context or the details.
