Yup. I get the stance Ed is taking here. He's right: As much as we all love football--myself included--there is just no way* to make this game safe for players' brains.
Honestly, I think we're already in the final couple decades of this sport (as we know it, anyway). The more long-term CTE outcome data emerges, the less tenable modern football will seem.
* The only option that could significantly mitigate the CTE risk would be to eliminate facemasks and helmets. But I doubt America has the stomach for the non-life-threatening but gruesome facial and ocular injuries that would result. -
It's easier to be a SJW with $5-8M in the bank than not.

Only way the game continues on in 20 years is if players just stop hitting each other with and into their heads and stop getting so big and fast. There is so much money in it that it will continue somehow, but it won't look like anything that it is now.

The guy is still giving up at least another 15 years of one of the cushiest jobs imaginable.
