And that ranking right there of #10 vs. #208 is all you need to know for why that's a stupid ranking.
I hate ND and all that they stand for as much as anybody. But if you believe that the overall quality of student body and education one gets at Notre Dame is 98 spots inferior than UW, then you need to go back to college and get an education.
In large measure, what makes Washington rank high on this particular list is research output. For 99 1/2% of the undergraduates, they will never come within 100 miles of that aspect of the school. Washington does have some departments that are absolutely world class. Computer science ranking among them. But there's a lot more that goes into a great undergraduate education than a few departments. Fortunately, Washington has become much more selective in their undergraduate population. But Notre Dame is even more selective. Again, not a fan. But given the quality of students with whom you will be going to school, one could do a whole lot worse than Notre Dame. And, I dare say, it is better than Washington. But, there is no doubt, that Washington is a better research university. Washington is also a better research university than Dartmouth; but you would find very very few of the tippy tippy tippy top students who would choose Washington over Dartmouth, all else being equal.

Clearly you could have used a ND educayshun because the difference from 10 to 208 is not 98.

Measured in at 6'2" - 194.6 lbs - 33 5/8 arms - 9 3/8 hands
Yeah, he'd fit in just fine at safety at UW. All the Golden Domers who say he's too big for safety and will automatically grow into a LB are retarded as expected.
On what the Notre Dame coaches are telling him at this point…
“The coaches tell me that at safety there are others like me, but at linebacker I’m different. They tell me that my speed, length and ball skills translate to linebacker and I’ll make, not necessarily a bigger impact, but I’ll be noticed more there. The weight part, they were telling me that I don’t need to get to 240 or anything, but I just need to get to 210 or 220.”
So wait just a god damn minute...a second ago he was way too big to ever be a safety and UW is lying to him but now its “there’s others like you at safety”????
It's not a VIP article so I'll post it for those who don't feel like leaving the safe confines of HH. Bolded what I found significant.
On linebacker or safety playing a factor in his decision…
“I think it’s more about not necessarily where I project myself at, but where the coaches projected me to be. Pretty much every school, expect two or three, have offered me at linebacker, so it’s hard to just take one school’s opinion of me being safety over twenty others that believe I’m a linebacker. That’s where I’m struggling… The reason it has been so hard is because the schools are so even. Both have great academics, I get along with both coaching staffs. The only main point differentiating them is position. That’s what all of this is based on.”

They tell me that my speed, length and ball skills translate to linebacker and I’ll make, not necessarily a bigger impact, but I’ll be noticed more there. The weight part, they were telling me that I don’t need to get to 240 or anything, but I just need to get to 210 or 220.” (Sounds like a safety to me)
On how hectic things were during the Early Signing Period…
“It was really crazy. It was really a week before that too. I let things relax with recruiting and stuff and then up until the last month before Signing Day I didn’t necessarily have doubts, but I was going back and forth between schools. Up until then, I was at least majority Washington. Then it was all even. It was hard because of the early signing day. It did make me things through quickly because if that wasn’t there, I would have just been waiting until the last minute and dealing with it.”
On if his Letter-of-Intent in front of him was from Notre Dame…
“I honestly don’t know what it was. Honestly, there were two other kids signing with me, Duke and Carlos, and they all had papers in front of them. I didn’t even plan on showing up because I didn’t know what to do. Up until the night before I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to show up, but there were news people there so my coach wanted me to show up. I just went there and everyone had papers in front of them and then the news said, ‘Act like you’re signing,’ so my mom just ripped a paper out of her bag and gave it to me. We had brought both of them though.” (FTG)
On if he knows where he wants to go…
“No, not yet. They’ve asked me if I wanted to announce here, but I’m still unsure. Even if I was sure, I’d still wait to give it a little time and see if it’s still set in stone. There are some people that think I did it for that, but if you know me, you know it’s not true.”
On if he it’s clear that he’s uncommitted right now…
“Yeah, that’s fair.”
On Peterson’s comments during the Early Signing Period…
“Notre Dame, at the very beginning, told me that if I don’t want to talk to them, I can tell them straight up and they won’t mess with me. But when I first committed to Washington, I was still like 80 to 20 percent sure. I wasn’t fully sure. I was kind of rushed into a decision. With what he said, I think that schools can still talk to me if I am letting them, but on his part, it’s not that I should have let them know, but I should have made it more clear that I was still deciding.” (This is why Petersen tells kids to go home and think about it).
On when he wants to make a final decision…
“Not this week, but soon. I don’t think I’ll wait until Signing Day, because that’s not what I want it to be. When it is finally set 100 percent, then I’ll do it. I don’t want to do it when I’m like 80 percent so it doesn’t happen like it did last time. I’ll just throw it on Twitter or something.”
On negative recruiting…
“The coaches aren’t. I’ve seen the fans doing it. They were kind of bad comments at first, but that’s why I put out that tweet. I wanted to clear things up. Up until that, everyone was going back and forth. When I put that out, everyone was telling me to think about it all.”
On why he committed early if he wasn’t fully committed…
“Spots were filling up at Washington and at the time, that’s when I was majority Washington. I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to go there. That was my favorite then.”
On where his commitment status is at this point…
“There is definitely not an edge in terms of tripping point. One day I’m leaning one way and then the next I’m leaning elsewhere. That’s why I’m taking my time. I’ve thought about taking visits, but I don’t know when or how I would. A while I thought I needed to visit, because Washington, I’m closer with everyone there. I know more people there. I know what life is like there. I’ve been in meetings with the players and with coach Lake. I think visits would do me good, but other than that, I’m not sure I’d need another visit anywhere. I thought about it though. I had been to Washington twice and Notre Dame once. Washington offered like two and a half years ago and then Notre Dame was kind of a later offer. They used to always be at my school and then Notre Dame started coming back to my school more and coming around. I really am close with both staffs though.”
On the rumors of his coach or family pushing him in one direction or another…
“It’s not necessarily pushing me toward a school, but more about pushing more to look at particular aspects of the school. Things like one of them saying, ‘Which coaching staff do you like more?’ or another saying that coaching staffs don’t matter.” (Sounds like family likes Pete and Lake and HC likes ND but not necessarily Kelly. Seriously though, FTG)
On if his coach will play a role in his final decision…
“My coach has been there through everything. When I make a decision, he won’t be sitting right next to me, but he’s a factor. Even when I made my first decision, he was there for me. He has a good relationship with coach Pete and all of the Washington coaches, and coach Polian. He’s pretty even.”
6'2 195 and Notre Lame is telling him he could play LB at 210 or 220? WTF? How many linebackers do you see playing in the NFL at 210 or 220? Seriously kid. Who gives a fuck what 20 other schools are recruiting you as. Obviously they are stupid and don't know what they're doing. UW does. You're a strong safety. That's the position that gives you the best shot to have a career in the NFL. Stop being stupid and recommit to UW!

I don't know man, I see a BIG BACK. Don't you agree @BallzDeep ?
I want Asa to be a dawg. With that being said, somebody needs to sit this kid down and tell him that life is about compromise. Nothing comes 100% and clear as day like he’s trying to make this.
Honestly, this sounded better than I expected. My advice to him, which he'll never read, is that he needs to look at track record.
1) I'm reading between the lines, but I think ND is telling him that the UW coaches are lying to him and going to switch him to LB the second he steps foot on campus. It doesn't apply though, because I can't think of a single kid that Lake, or even Petersen for that matter, has recruited at one position and then switched immediately. Position switches have been rare in general, although there are a couple examples after 2-3 years in the program (DisslyDawg, Warren, and Dotson), and even an example where the kid chose to play a position that we thought was worse for him (Joyner) and we allowed it.
2) Lake has been trying to recruit longer guys in the secondary, including at safety, for a number of years. Kevin King, Keith Taylor, Fabiculanan, Dom Hampton, etc. are prime examples, and Isaiah Pola-Mao from the 2017 class was super similar to Asa Turner frame-wise, but we missed out. You could include Bryan Addison in there for the 2018 class. We're looking for a bigger safety or two to counter Furd's giant TEs and the increasing number of 6'3"+ receivers, and there absolutely is a need for him in our secondary.

WR/TE are getting bigger, so make sense the S are getting bigger
