You're just as outraged at Home Depot for killing the hardware store category? Or Albertsons for putting the neighborhood grocer on the extinct species?
And, hey, Netflix and Comcast On Demand are bastards too because they killed Blockbuster video and strip malls.
Pouring out a 40 for fax machine manufacturers and carbon paper producers, too.
Shit changes. But the outrage is so noted.

It does give them benefit, as there would be a station in San Jose servicing the community. This was a small group that did not represent the larger community. And they weren't suing to stop the project going through and disrupting their community; they were suing because they didn't like the look of the bridge. They didn't know what they wanted the bridge to look like, just that they didn't like the proposed design. Two years after the line is completed and people are used to it and appreciate the added infrastructure, nobody will give a fuck what the bridge looks like.TierbsHsotBoobs said:
Why should communities allow this disruption when it gives them zero benefit?BearsWiin said:
Excessive local veto power is also making a mockery of the project. Local groups in San Jose sued to block the portion of the rail that goes through San Jose (I think near Diridon Station) because they objected to the look of the architectural rendering of a particular rail bridge over a roadway.CirrhosisDawg said:

If they are private the build time would be very low.
Fixed rail lines are dumb.
That being said, I've been on the rail from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and it's awful. I've used it in San Francisco and it works well there. The airport to downtown Seattle is nice but it's limited to just that basically.
Rail from San Fran to LA is dumb when there's 3 airports to the Bay area and 3 in LA area all with direct flights. Really across the west, rail doesn't make sense other than in some cities.

They were fun. But who needs a drivein when you can simply Netflix and chill in a basement.PurpleJ said:I never got to go to a drive in, but I imagine the idea of trying to get a nice old fashioned in the car while watching a movie would be very romantic.

Vinyl seats in the back of an Impala way easier to clean up than the velour couch in mom's basement.salemcoog said:

Ain't Amazon's problem that those companies allowed themselves to approach irrelevance. Suppose you're upset about the disappearance of Blockbuster Video, oil lamp manufacturers, television repairmen, blacksmiths, chamber pot makers, and drive in movie theaters too?oregonblitzkrieg said:

Amazon and jobs in the same paragraph, el oh el. Yeah Amazon will help with jobs and traffic. They will be putting so many more people out of work and into their basements that traffic won't be much of a concern in the future. #KillAmazon2001400ex said:
It won't help eliminate some traffic. The growth of Amazon, Expedia, etc. jobs downtown will just replace the cars on the freeway that will take the rail. That said, it's better than doing nothing with traffic.NEsnake12 said:

LA-SF high speed rail has to either go over a mountain range or along the coast through Santa Barbara. Only the mountain range option is under consideration. A white trash train from Bakersfield to Sacramento with a stop in Fresno works from an engineering standpoint but the redneck passengers couldn't pay the cost. The whole LA-SF high speed rail idea is asinine.RaceBannon said:
The Cali train is already billions over budget and year behind schedule and so far has a route between Bakersfield and FresnoPitchfork51 said:The California train is a great idea.
Actually some trains out west wouldn't be too bad because the land is relatively flat and it doesn't go through mcuh development so it's cheaper.
This is not completely factual but still
