The parallels are stunning. Get best coach in program history, unparalleled success, NCAA sanctions, gone no warning.
Hire underling to keep the mojo, kind of works for a minute, but once recruited talent graduates and no leaders emerge, wheels fall off.
Now, we've hire the New Ty who really isn't any different from the Old Guy (Helfrich) in terms of being an offensive-minded coach with terrible defenses.
I'm not saying this is true YET, since neither USF nor UO have announced the hire. But if so, we are probably going to continue to suck for the foreseeable future. I'm not sold on Taggart AT ALL.
He turned around two completely shitty programs in WKU and USF, but Oregon isn't a dearth of talent right now so not sure how that would translate.
It's not a sizzle hire, but neither was Altman. In hindsight, it probably would have been worth another year of Helfrich to see who became available next season.

No it is always better to get rid of your coach as soon as you know he is not the guy.
There is so much variance in hiring head coaches. Rarely does any program have the opportunity to hire a coach like CP who had already established himself against top competition.
You have to roll the dice. And your best chance to hit the point is to roll as frequently as possible.
