Danny O'NEIL and Dave Wyman on Romar
Whether they make tourney or not makes no difference to Danny in his support of Romar.
Wyman: I support Romar because he's such a good guy.

I don't have anything against Romar but how about some standards?

"Lorenzo Romar deserves to be the head coach at UW as long as he wants. I don't care what his record is".
-Danny O'Neil
Romar has done a very good job of keeping the majority of kids home which is about all you can ask for when it comes to a coach. Nobody keeps all talent within it's boarders as some kids just want to leave.
Here are a few of the gems that are coming out of O'neill's twatter responses.
A response to the small school zags making the dance so many years in a row - "zags ftball teams sucks". Wow, just wow
OSU and oregon have recently made hires that have been successful early on - "and now you're point to osu as a model for uw to emulate?" - Yes danny, yes. It's ironic you can't see that when OSU gets it more than UW it's incredibly sad and pathetic.
To the multitude of posts about how people like danny claim UW can't find a better option than romar so why fire him? "Name the last UW coach to be better than romar?" or "didn't LR take UW to 6 of 8 tournies? Were you disappointed then?"
We need to bring out the romar defenders playbook again.
I'm absolutely shocked that Danny would make these concrete assumptions like that based on nothing more than pulling stuff out of his ass. He is usually a rationale thinker. I'm not sure what's going on here.
I barely watch UW basketball, they lost me as a fan a few years ago, so I don't care that much one way or another and have nothing against Romar. But again, the lack of standards and the beaten wife syndrome from fans and media leave me perplexed.
That's not a personal attack at all,, I wish it wasn't the case, but after five failed years I can't see how this isn't painfully obvious to even the biggest doogs. The problems that existed 5 years ago are still front and center today.
I think UW will make the tourney next year and possibly go deep. Even if they make it in somehow this year, they'll simply just get knocked out in the first round.
Cohen will come out at the end of the year, regardless of the outcome, and say how much promise the team showed, how young they were, the recruits, and that UW is lucky to have Romar.
Unless the program is losing the AD money, they won't dump him since he has the occasional banner year and they market the crap out of the team enough to get stupid people interested
Doog Fain constantly points to the 11th place prediction...fucking apologist.
Spare me the "Who can you get who is better?" bullshit. It's a major school. No, it's not Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, Syracuse etc., but there's no reason it can't be a Florida, Texas, or Ohio State. Those schools are good in both sports. Maybe if a great AD was hired or something....
But my least favorite argument is UW has never been traditionally good in basketball. Who gives a fuck? All the money and support and talent rich backyard are there to succeed at very high level.
It's like UW would feel bad if they won because that means others would lose and they will feel bad. So we accept just good enough and shake hands smiling after another loss.
"Good game, good game, good game, way to post up, good game, nice handle, good game, good game, good job Jabari, good game, good game, good luck in the tourney coach heck of a squad you got there"
Fucking losers!
Wyman? Guy should be doing cialis ads. He's awful and knows nothing beyond his own football career.
First you can find someone better. Second if they do leave for a better gig, then that means THEY ARE WINNING AND GOING TO THE TOURNAMENT WHICH IS A GOOD. Finally, if the expectation for UW basketball is two sweet 16 appearances every 14 years, then tear down AA arena tomorrow, turn it into more UW medical buildings and drop the sport. That "ceiling" is a waste of time for everyone involved including the fans.
He's two years in. I'm willing to see what happens in the next two years. If it's more Spleen of Dallas and Cactus Bowls and a 14-12 record, by all means, he needs to be fired.
Romar has had almost 14. That's a large body of work unless we're using the Rich Brooks scale.
Romar has done some great things. I appreciate what he did in the first four or five years and all UW fans should. He has also squandered some of the talent. It's a what have you done for me lately business, and he hasn't made a tournament in five years.
"Oh but UW sucked before Romar got there"
1. A precedent of mediocrity is no reason to keep a coach who sustains said mediocrity around. This is stupid.
2. Let's not forget that Romar's tenure has coincided with Seattle's rise as ONE OF THE BEST H.S. TALENT POOLS IN THE NATION. Fuck o' dear. Pitino with the talent UW had the last 13+ years would have multiple final fours. Imagine Lute. Or even Sean Miller.
I don't even have the heart to address the other pro-RomarFS arguments. I can feel my IQ dropping even thinking about it.
