Originally from Augusta, Ga., Malchow is a graduate of the University of Alabama and worked throughout his undergraduate career as a recruiting specialist in the football program's player personnel department. While with the Crimson Tide, Malchow assisted in the recruiting process, providing tours for official and unofficial visits. He was also a volunteer for both the Nike Rise Camp and the Summer Alabama Football Camps. He also served internships with both ESPN and the Atlanta Braves.

Recruiting coordinators at some schools are very active. I never saw this guy's name anywhere so unless he did everything behind the scenes I doubt it is a big loss. But that doesn't mean recruiting coordinator can't become an important role with the right person filling the position.
