It's funny you mention this. My boss mentioned today that people around the office have been telling her that I've been disappearing at times during the day and coming back and smelling like marijuana and alcohol. It caught me off guard, but I quickly recovered and talked my way out of it so smoothly that I swear to God for a moment I literally became Bill Clinton.Swaye said:

I'd argue beating the Beavers when we did was equally as impressive as the Miami win. That was a GOOD (and ranked) Oregon State.
Big Game Bob should be sending us ? part of his natty (HA) ...
OS would have whopped OU's ass had they played.
And that victory should have been good enough to move us ? into 2nd place over The U. -
You fasted for a whole week? Not even a nacho appetizer? Inhumane!Swaye said:

I know I'm in the minority here, but I had that concern the day he was hired. Watching Colorado transition from McCartney to Neuheisel was enough evidence for me to see that the Huskies were bound to lose their identity as a "tough as nails" team and that any upward trajectory might be short lived.AEB said:RB felt great. We(?) were back. That said, I don't remember feeling great about the program. I was still worried RN was the right guy long term. Who knew how bad it could/did get? Young, dumb and stupid.
Winning the RoseBowl was great, tip of the cap to Rick (and Tui) for getting that team to pull together and win some really big games, not the least of which were beating a great Miami team and, as others in this thread have pointed out, a great Oregon State team. Also in fairness to Neuheisel, I don't think he gets enough credit for things he did for the team behind the scenes. He seriously gave a shit about the players, and he brought a lot of "fun" back to the program. But questionable actions on his part did lead to the chaos that surrounded the program towards the end of his tenure and the team did indeed get soft under him. Concern over his hire was justified. -
@Southerndawg: By that time, Hedges was all-in for her SoCal Boy Rick. I also had a Colorado grad working for me at the time who hated his guts and forewarned he that he'd "turn UW soft" like he did Colorado. I heard a lot of "don't trust him" and "be careful what you wish for" but the most chilling was "Just wait." Buffs didn't like his Cali Fratboy style. As it turned out, Rick did great with Tui, and losing CW to the injury at Stanford really pulled that team together, but it was the Cali Fratboy/partyboy shit that undid him as well as lying about interviewing for the 49rs job. After Tui, watching the erratic, pass-happy Cody Pickett pile up stats in losing efforts against mid-level teams slicing through our softening defense with greater and greater ease, the die was cast. We'd won a recent Rose Bowl, but were as far as ever from the identity of the team a decade before and the slide continued from there.

I agree @TurdBuffer. I was at the 2001 Miami game in the old Orange Bowl. That was by far the softest Husky team I could recall. It was crystal clear that the Huskies as I had known them were officially dead. UCLA North had arrived, and it only got worse from there. -
Pickett is interesting from that point of view. He committed to Lambo and had no problem being the tough ass rodeo cowboy. Ran the option and was decent at it. But I think after the shoulder injury which he played through both he and Rick realized it was stoopid to put his NFL career at risk and then we became even more pass happy, which Rick was all too willing to support.
-
It wasn't just the pass happy offense that was limp. With a few exceptions, they no longer had the horses up front on either side of the ball to push people around and the defense got soft. In a nutshell both the priority in recruiting and the culture changed.whlinder said:Pickett is interesting from that point of view. Why are we still a bunch of soft losers? Why haven't any of the doog legends who followed Rick equaled his soft shitty record?
You need to dig deeper -
Crazy part - Peterman needs to start next season 6-0 to catch up to Lambo's winning percentage.

That is truly depressing.PurpleThrobber said:Crazy part - Peterman needs to start next season 6-0 to catch up to Lambo's winning percentage.

Pickett's shoulder was so obviously FUBAR'd that year his throws were all over the place. So naturally, they had him throw more and more, 'cause he was a preseason "in the conversation" Heisman candidate.whlinder said:Pickett is interesting from that point of view. Yes, but then our coach decided to gamble with cuogs and cheat on Barbara with the 49'ers while Bleanor was trying to throw his weight around with Upper campus.topdawgnc said:We woke up to our Huskies being #3 in the country.
