watching Gaines disrupt the play by pushing the center into the backfield, Littleton hold the edge against WSU's LT, Feeney chase down from the backside, King shooting in to help out and get his nose dirty from 15 yards away, and finally finishing the play off with 7 guys being involved in the tackle.
Everything about that play is absolutely beautiful and has me bulging hard against my sweatpants.
great example of everything wrong with Mickens, he has the angle and the speed for a TD on this play but dances, does nothing, and then steps out of bounds so he can save himself for the next play.

Yup. That is their MLB, he scores if he catches and goes.
That isnt Hall on the deep ball but Renfro. During the game I thought it was Hall which is why I thought he'd drop it. Good catch and run by Renfro.
Also, DDY was right. If String (Johnson) picks up the fumble cleanly, he has an 81% chance to house it. After not getting it twice he did the right thing to fall on it. The defense needs to do things like that to become elite.
Gaines and Johnson were Boise commits before Pete came to UW. Remember Softy asked Petros if Pete could recruit....Petros laughed and said he had an SEC DL at Boise.
This is a great example, combined with the run stuff play by our D of how and why our defense is so good compared to the Chico reverse that the Cougs absolutely whiffed on big time.
When you look at our defense, the first thing that we do a great job of doing is controlling the blockers and using the blockers as a means to dictate and limit the options of the ball carrier. Once the ball carrier makes a decision on where to go, he's hemmed in by the defense and all that is left is to gang tackle.
In contrast, when you look at our blocking on the Chico run, anybody keying on the play defensively (particularly if on the back end of the initial sweep) would realize that the blocking pattern was trying to get you to flow to the football and away from where the reverse was coming. There were multiple blockers for us that were in position to make blocks but had nobody to block because the Cougs ran themselves out of the play. Basically, the Cougs got caught cheating and paid dearly for it.
