So... you got nuttin'?? Just a few feel good generalities? Not to pick on you, but, that's the point.

There is no specific legislation anyone can point to that would have prevented this. Obama's grandstanding simply calls attention to the fucked up shooter... while calling attention to the inherent danger that seemingly lurks in gun free zones.

Obviously you can't fix it completely, but the government needs to set up a system that prevents people that shouldn't have guns to have guns. Again, it wouldn't have helped in this instance.

However, I feel that the government would rather just stomp on the rights of everybody, then stomp on the rights of just the mentally unstable. This is why I'm skeptical that anything will pass.

I am completely against the grandstanding because his grand standing is for a possible bill that will take fundamental rights away from everyday citizens. And trying to use this platform to do it, is wrong to the upmost degree.
There is only one way to accomplish this. Identify anyone deemed unworthy of gun ownership, and incarcerate for life or execute them.

I don't know the answer, and there is no easy solution. But the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Thousands of people being gunned down every year doesn't seem like a desired outcome.

    It doesn't?

That's the point. Nothing we can do as a country will stop every scenario. But as a society, we implement laws to make us safer. Right now these shootings tend to be in the 5-10 people dead range. Imagine if we had fully automatic weapons (which were banned in the 30s or whenever). Then many of these would be 30-50 or more people.

Same goes for better access to background checks. It won't prevent every death, but if it saves 2,000 a year, that's worth it. Same with limiting magazine size. Same with better tracking of mental health, social networking sites and forums. Maybe ask that combined we save 4,000 lives. And not one legal gun owner was denied one gun.

But you guys keep screaming him!!!". "Obama is trying to confiscate our guns, fuck him!!!". "We need to arm everyone!!!". Looks like it's working so far.

I'm not for punishing 99.9999% of gun owners because of the .0001%

Agreed. Explain how what I proposed punishes one gun owner.

I don't have a problem with what you're proposing, I have an issue with you your "him" rant. Obama wants to restrict the types of guns people can buy. It's not the guns it's the people that have them. I like yours and Obama's idea on background checks. I'd take it a step further and make future applicants sign HIPPA forms. So then it opens up more detailed checks.

I will not support any gun law that restricts what I can own and can't own any more than it already does. That is a hardline stance I have even if all other items are checked.

    1. Change

Convert all gun free zones to Secure Zones once at least three adults are confirmed to be active concealed weapons permit holders and trained in putting down mass threats.
