If Lindy and KJCS aren't good enough to clearly beat out a true frosh (or Cyler Miles FFS) for the job, they shouldn't be playing anyways.

I only read the link URL.

Is there some web site on the internet where I can find out more information on this subject?

It also depends on the OL, if they can't pass block I don't want to see browning get decapitated.

We tied UCLA in '86. I remember because I watched at this Jewish kid's house and thought it was weird how college football games ended in ties. We tied AZ in '87, which I don't remember, but looked up. They were 4-4-3 or something crazy that year.

Someone had to be that guy.

Wow you're right. My memory failed me a bit there, but the gist is the same.

This. If he is the best then so be it... I cringe a bit though.

1986 was also the year that James realized that Bama had faster linemen that we had backs. We got curb stomped in the Sun Bowl, I would have fired James in 1986 and 87 because they came on the heels of a bad 1985 season that included a historic loss to an unranked Oregon State.

UW had blown two Rose Bowls by losing the Apple Cup in 82 and 83. Had blown another Pac title and a national title in 84. Then cratered. It looked like James had lost it.

1988 was not a great season but you could see the talent improving. By the end of 89 alert observers knew something special was coming

When they crushed Florida in the Freedom Bowl, and the "second string" looked better than the starters, it was very clear something special was coming.

I (along with 7,459 other UW fans) attended the 1989 Freedom Bowl in Anaheim. I sat there and watched Lambright's laboratory experiment result in a complete beat down of Emmit Smith and the rest of 'dem gaters.

At the end of the game I sat there asking myself: "Where in the hell did this defense come from?" Pretty clear that a major corner was being turned.

Next fall - "All I saw was Purple."

The only qualifier there was that Charley Pell had what was effectively a DB playing QB and Lambright knew full what was coming on every play, albeit that it was Emmit Smith. Florida could not throw to save their lives. The outcome of that game seemed to surprise everyone in the English speaking world except for me.

Agree that florida's QB was marginal, but over the next few years that defense made even good QBs look marginal. Tough to throw with people all over you.

Agreed. I look back at that game as an indicator of things to come on two points: the one which you bring up, and the other being what had to be very close to the straw breaking the camel's back for Florida coaching incompetence. They always had so much talent, even back then, and could never do anything with it.

Spurrior took over the next season right?

The Freedom Bowl was the last game pre-Spurrier. 7 carries, 17 yards.

In 1986 the tie was against UCLA. Jaeger hit a field goal as time expired. Unseasonably sunny day for November.

When Conklin played in 1986, Derek's first reaction was seriously "But 1990 was going to be special"?

I don't know if Browning will start in Boise, but I guarantee he will start in Corvallis.

Yep. 90 to 2001 b4 making the NFL mistake.
