Good article. There is a major lack of connection between marketing and the fans and program itself. They don't understand the culture of the program and what makes a true UW fan, imo.
I will say, in their defense, there is nothing they can do about kickoff times. That is a tv issue. And honestly, so be it. Id rather have it the way it is today, than back in the day when 90% of he games were over by 4pm and you didn't get to watch any of them anyways because you had to watch your team. The more football I can watch the better.
A lot of this ... it's a lot easier to sell a winning product than a non-consistent one. Those of us that grew up with Husky Football, are alumni, and plan our fall afternoons around college football are going to be at the stadium rain or shine, win or lose because that's what we do. For the fringe bandwagon type, it's all about winning. And one thing about winning is that winning is what drives the next generation to be fans, strive to attend the school, etc.
The start times are what they are. Those flexible find ways to make the best of it and adjust accordingly. Those who aren't find ways to make excuses. Early start times lead to good weather, 9 am cocktails, and home by 5 for the national game. Late games mean full day of watching games in the morning and early afternoon, not having to rush to get to tailgating, more tailgating, more adult beverages, more abundance.
We can bitch and moan all we want about the tv schedule and how much authority that the networks have, but you can't have it both ways. You want to watch other games but others around the country want the same. Likewise, the networks pump a ton of $$$ into the AD that limit the donations and ticket prices the AD charge the alumni and season ticket base. You pay for it one way or another.
I'd be far more interested in seeing improvements in the in-game production. You have a large portion of people that would be very happy to see a college football game have a college football feel with the band, cheering, etc. You have another group (fuck off KJV) that want the noise makers, bright lights, modern music, and over the top loudness that caters to the today generation. The most important thing that needs to be remembered is that regardless of what direction you go, the main attraction is the game on the field. Anything you do that isn't supporting that needs to go immediately.
i think our marketing probably sucked for decades but we just didn't know it. There was no need to market that hard when they were drawing 70k plus. Now they have to try but there really isn't a demand. If they have the year I expect this year I think eyes gonna be a lot of empty bleachers. I still have not seen a game where they fill the student section. The duck is right. The only way this is solved is with wins.
The students fucking suck... I always boo the student non-athletes
The students will be great if we were good. we have a football problem.
While they would show up if we were winning, they still suck.

Went to the 2013 arizona game when we were both undefeated and there was justifiably a bit of buzz among the doogdom. We sat close to the student section and granted it rained 3+ inches, the student section, which was never full, was 3/4 empty by halftime. That was the worst weather since 2006 OSU when Stanback got hurt and it was raining sideways, just an all around shitty day. but we didn't leave early when we were students because we hazed anyone who left a game early.
</#oldmanrant>
I was at that game. Perfect example of why a passing offense on Montlake is fucking stupid.
I was at that game. Sankey ran the ball like 40 times and Kevin Smith dropped a play action to that was set up off of running the ball all damn day. Go Hawks.

A good running team would have plunger raped us that day. Luckily, Arizona was fucking soft and had vanilla Vick at QB.

This is all you need to know about today's generation of student ...
Student see bad weather and would rather go back to their frats/dorms and watch on TV ...
Alumni are jumping up and down in the stands and enjoying the fuck out of watching Arizona run and hide on the sidelines and mindfuck themselves out of the game because they'd rather be anywhere that was dry.
But then again, what do you expect when the University's strategy is to bring in a higher percentage of out of state/country students (higher tuition $$$) and losing out on some of the in-state kids who have always had a chip on their shoulder thinking that those of us in this region are always slighted.

Stick the students in the rainy end zone a mile away from the field...what do you expect?

The Weather sucked that day. The only reason the alumni was still there was because they were under the roof. Arizona had Kadeem Carey that year and was a good running team. Vanilla Vick did suck balls.

They can be butthurt about getting their seats moved, they're still probably closer to the game than in the old stadium setup (#MyTrack) and paying 5% the price of anyone else there.

Arizona only had a RB named Kadeem Carey. He wasn't very good though.
A lot of you older fans would be just as pissed if the students still showed up in droves out of school spirit. The Marinerization would be 100% complete, the program would be fucked without a doubt, and they wouldn't even bother to fork over the money for a Chris Petersen.
Instead WE realized it was fucking pointless (I got 3 years of Ty and 1 year of Sark) and spent the extra time getting fucked up and letting the school know they suck in that department. And this despite all of our doog dads bitching at us for not going to the games anyways.
Good read and yes I convulse at the night games.... how many times can you loop same shitty ads for three hours straight. It's sorry.
At first I was pumped for the name drop, but then I realized orange pickle and honder were the other two posters mentioned as well. Oh well.....free Pub!
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Florida Marlins winning the World Series didn't make their horrible unis look any better. Winning will make average unis look great but won't make awful unis look good. UW's current unis are awful. Also awful are Rape U's and ASU's unis no matter what they win.

why? Do they play a lot of football in high school in China and the Middle East?

Yes they are awful, ASU hasn't won anything since Jake the Snake led them to a Rose Bowl, so not a good example. Oregon also has horrible uniforms, but it hasn't had any effect on their following or support, because they win. Didn't Damone put it best, "they can wear pink tutus as long as they win"

Disagree. The current uniform, executed in the former school colors of green in yellow, is fucking awesome.
