One More Thing About Magna Carta

So even though he was ranked a 4 star recruit by Rivals and Scout, he only had offers from UW, Vandy, Boise State, and Arizona. I always look at offers more than I do rankings (Danny Shelton ranked as a 3 star by Scout, wtf) but KJCS committed to Vandy early in the process since his brother was their incumbent QB there in 2013: anchorofgold.com/2014/3/26/5547468/2014-nfl-draft-capsules-austyn-carta-samuels-vanderbilt-football-quarterback

KJCS's brother wasn't good enough (only 6'1" and coming off an ACL tear) to make it to the NFL but Gary Pinkel thought enough of him as a student of the game to hire him as a GA: anchorofgold.com/2014/8/21/6054339/austyn-carta-samuels-joins-missouri-football-as-a-graduate-assistant

Moving back to KJCS, what is notable though is that he committed to James Franklin and Vandy all the way back on July 16th, 2012. After Franklin left Vandy after the 2013 season, KJCS committed to Petersen on January 22nd, 2014 so he basically had a year and a half where he had largely shut down his recruiting: https://washington.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1385812

If I had to guess, Sloppy Steve took 2 QBs (Miles and Williams) who were mobile QBs first and looked the part but weren't students of the game and were found to be lacking in the intangibles that a QB needs to win consistently. On the outside, we obviously don't know if KJCS (or Browning) has "IT" when it comes to CFB but one has to imagine they do based off of the QB play Petersen got out of his guys before coming to UW.

I have no fucking idea what your thesis is here.

    No offense.

The thesis is that the Magna Carta family is pretty fucking smart.

If I recall right, he went to high school at a fairly brainy place in the Bay Area.

I firmly believe that being a good QB is as much (if not more) about things outside of your athletic ability than your athletic ability. Sure, you have to be able to have a good/great arm, etc. to be a QB. But your ability to read defenses, manipulate defenders, inspire confidence in your teammates, and get your team out of bad plays and into good plays.

No offense taken, it was a stream-of-consciousness poast that started out as to why Magna Carta was a legit 4 star who didn't have more offers (because he committed to Vandy in mid 2012 since his brother was there before committing to UW 1 1/2 years later). That prompted me to look up his older bro since it was stuck in my mind that he came from a Football Family and sure enough, his bro landed on Gary Pinkel's staff which only reinforced my belief that, beyond the 6'3" to 6'4" frame, big arm, and good accuracy, Magna Carta probably has the intangibles that Petersen covets so much.

TL, DR version: just read what Tequilla said.

Why not slaughter a goat and read its entrails? About as effective as projecting a younger brother based on the "intangibles" thought to be apparent in his older one.

KJCS went to Bellermine Prep in San Jose. It's your standard Catholic School. Good not great academics, good athletics. Definitely not a brainy place. They have a solid football program that has occasionally produced Pac12 level players in the past, but no one exceptional.

I actually looked up the school's wikipedia page to verify my memory, I saw that Nick Holt, Football Genius, is actually an alum.

And for whatever it's worth, I know UCLA recruited him pretty heavily as they were scrambling for QBs last year. They took someone else but they definitely were recruiting him late.

The fact that sark didn't recruit him is as much of a + in his corner than anything else after the mess we have on the current roster.

Kim claims that when asking the coaches which player they expect to make a big splash next year, the first name mentioned is always Magna Carta. Last year it was Lavon Coleman so take otfor what its worth.
