So even though he was ranked a 4 star recruit by Rivals and Scout, he only had offers from UW, Vandy, Boise State, and Arizona. KJCS's brother wasn't good enough (only 6'1" and coming off an ACL tear) to make it to the NFL but Gary Pinkel thought enough of him as a student of the game to hire him as a GA: anchorofgold.com/2014/8/21/6054339/austyn-carta-samuels-joins-missouri-football-as-a-graduate-assistant
Moving back to KJCS, what is notable though is that he committed to James Franklin and Vandy all the way back on July 16th, 2012. If I had to guess, Sloppy Steve took 2 QBs (Miles and Williams) who were mobile QBs first and looked the part but weren't students of the game and were found to be lacking in the intangibles that a QB needs to win consistently. On the outside, we obviously don't know if KJCS (or Browning) has "IT" when it comes to CFB but one has to imagine they do based off of the QB play Petersen got out of his guys before coming to UW.

If I recall right, he went to high school at a fairly brainy place in the Bay Area.
I firmly believe that being a good QB is as much (if not more) about things outside of your athletic ability than your athletic ability. Sure, you have to be able to have a good/great arm, etc. to be a QB. But your ability to read defenses, manipulate defenders, inspire confidence in your teammates, and get your team out of bad plays and into good plays.

I actually looked up the school's wikipedia page to verify my memory, I saw that Nick Holt, Football Genius, is actually an alum.
And for whatever it's worth, I know UCLA recruited him pretty heavily as they were scrambling for QBs last year. They took someone else but they definitely were recruiting him late.
